I hope it doesn't mess up his swing or cause anything negative.

I concur. You look at Wright last year and Abreu the year before, they both experienced huge power outages following their Derby performances. I worry.

Link to info? Who else is in the derby?

Homer (un)happy

Soriano, who has hit 15 homers this season, said he didn't expect to participate in the annual Home Run Derby. "I want to watch," he said.

Lee laughed when asked if he would take part.

"With six homers, I don't think I would be invited, but I would think about it [if asked]," he said.

They haven't picked anybody yet then, and apparently Soriano is likely to decline to participate anyway.

?

That says he won't be in it.

MLB.com has a story about Prince Fielder being excited about being in it and that he's the only confirmed contestant.

How is Dunn getting to play?

They've brought in players not on an All-Star roster to compete before, most recently Hee Seop Choi in 2005 (although that was to represent Korea in the "international-format" Derby), and supposedly they were going to ask Ryan Howard to defend his title even if he didn't make the roster. I think it's stupid as all get out; you're not going to put a guy on the All-Star roster, but you're going to ask him to blow up his time off just to come in and compete in an exhibition?

these rosters are far from set. Half these guys will come down with hang nails or halitosis before the game and sit out

it's gonna be fielder, dunn, griffey jr, and bonds

Source?

no source, just speculation.

Top 3 NL home run hitters, and I figure Bonds would get an invite because of being a hometown player.

those are at least how I expect them to be selected, id guess maybe bonds and griffey could drop out.

I could also see howard getting an invite to defend his title (and he is #5 in the NL in HR)

Fielder, Howard, and Morneau are all in

I think Bonds just might do it since it's in SF

Howard will be joined in this year's Home Run Derby field by Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers and Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins, the reigning American League MVP.

Fielder has 27 homers, one behind Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees for the major-league lead, and was voted the starting first baseman for the NL All-Star team. Morneau is second in the American League to Rodriguez with 20 home runs.

Other possible participants include Rodriguez, David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox, Ken Griffey Jr. of the Cincinnati Reds and Barry Bonds of the hometown San Francisco Giants.
