I can understand why they wanted to get Howry in. He hadn't pitched since Friday, so they wanted him to get some work. He obviously showed why he needed the work, as he was quite rusty. Hopefully he shook off the rust tonight to be ready for a save situation tomorrow.

Well, that was fun to be at.

Got to go onto the field during Cubs BP and snap some photos (to be posted later) and then had a great game to watch. Its great when you know somebody who works for the team in a higher up manner.

Just back from RFK. Great game all around; you could tell from the second swing of the game - Soriano's flyout to deep center field - that Simontachi simply wasn't going to fool anyone, and that's exactly what happened.

FWIW, Soriano got a mixed reaction from all 300 Nats fans in attendence. I'd say the crowd was at least 35-40% northside faithful. Very very nice. Going back tomorrow...ps that ballpark sucks in every way imagineable.

just got home. Nice win. RFK isn't much as a stadium - not even the food or drink are redeeming. However, $20 seats in the mezzanine above home plate as a walk-up can't be beat.

It was at least 40% Cubs fans. I'll be back on the 4th. Yes, I'm facing the national nightmare that is DC on the 4th. But heck, it's better than working (which is what I'd be doing if I was on my overseas assignment).

And for fun: there were a dozen Cub fans in my section. When Jones came into PH in the 9th, he was soundly booed. Poor JJ can't even get peace on the road!

To add to the names, someone I used to work with claimed to know a couple that named their kid "shet-tod". It was spelled like "poophead". Except the word wasn't "poop".

Nice win tonight, fellas. 10 of 11 tomorrow against Tim Redding of the 10.57 ERA in 2005?

After that performance and Marmol's recent hot streak, I'm ready for Marmol to become the new interim closer.

I was ready to make him the closer before tonight. Forget the interim tag.

Then you'd be taking him out of too many spots where he'd be much more useful. More often than not, the closer isn't pitching in the toughest relief spots.

Problem is, I think Lou will use the relievers depending on the inning, not the situation. In a perfect world, yeah, I'd love to have Marmol come in for the really tough jams. But, I don't think it'll work like that. If there's a jam, Lou's guy for that particular inning will come on.
