Here we go again :D

Honestly though, the roster move could be several things. A Jones trade, Theriot being sent down, and Petrick being sent down (since he probably is unavailable to pitch today) are probably the 3 most likely options.

That wouldn't make sense if Lou wants to add a pitcher.

It also makes no sense to me to lose Petrick for 10 days just because he may not be able to pitch today. I believe we've seen the last of Jones or Izturis for good, or the last of The Riot for now.

I'm guessing it's the last of the Riot for now. I'm hoping it's Jones or Izturis, but I'm not holding my breath.

The other question becomes-is it 10 days before the person can be recalled, or 10 games? With all this roster juggling and now only 8 days before the break, that could make a difference in the next few days.

It's 10 days, not 10 games.

As much as I'd love to see Izturis get cut, I seriously do not see it happening anytime soon. Marquis is an extreme ground ball pitcher, and I think Lou likes using Izturis at SS to get to more grounders than DeRosa, Fontenot or Theriot might get to.

If somewhere down the line Lou finds that Fontenot's bat can make up for a few grounders that might get past him is worth cutting Izturis, only then will he be sent packing.

Too small of a sample size at this point.

Jones probably isn't going anywhere at this point. What team will take on his contract? Only a deal that sends a bad contract back will get the job done, and I wouldn't expect to see a deal like that right now, since most teams would rather shed contract rather than swap it.

By deduction, Theriot will be sent to AAA. Unfortunately, this won't be a good move for him, since Cedeno and Patterson will likely gobble up most of the playing time.

I don't buy that argument for Izturis. He leads the team with errors and really hasn't been good defensively. He should have been sent packing long time ago.

It's definitely not Pie; they're committed to giving him an extended chance.

One possibility I don't think has been mentioned in this thread yet is Pagan. Theriot and Derosa can both play outfield in a crunch.

I don't like it either, but I think Cubs management does.

It's not Pagan. If the lineup anounced in the game thread is correct, he is starting in CF today.

I hadn't seen that. I avoid the game threads like the plague.

I'm guessing Pie. He's really in a monster slump, and it's painful to have him in the lineup. Right now the team is trying to win games, and Pagan is contributing to some degree but at least offensively, Pie is not.

At this point, I'm guessing Hendry and Lou are more interested in winning than in developing. So Pie's development is probably secondary to trying to win. And since he's auto-outed himself to the bench, his development is probably better served playing regularly in Iowa than sitting on the bench with the cubs.

Obvoiusly right now we've won 7 straight, and it's natural to think about winning and getting into contention for division and/or wildcard.

If next month we're back to 7 games under .500 and neither division nor wildcard still seem plausible, then the issue of winning versus development might reverse. Then maybe you bring back Pie and stick with him no matter how badly he hits, if winning and losing don't matter anymore.

Bruce Levine says Petrick is out.

I have a feeling we're gonna do this every two to 3 games until after the break, rotate between rapada, cherry, gallagher, petrick basically up for 3 to 4 days used in all possible games then sent down for the fresher arm. Pretty stupid.
