According to a THT writer, it's everyone's favorite lightning rod, DePo.

The article isn't flawless, it certainly gives DePo the benefit of the doubt from hindsight, and it curiously says that Choi went "back" to Japan, but I found it an interesting read.

Colletti has been just terrible, wow.

That team may be 10 games over right now, but I only think it is a matter of time before they crash and burn.

If a franchise has the chance to instantly hire the best person available to handle one of the most important controllable factors in the long-term health and success of the organization, shouldn't they? Even if it means terminating the contract of their current GM mid-year, just to ensure that they get to be the sole competitor for DePodesta's services, and give him plenty of time to prepare for his real work in the offseason (Rule 5 draft, free agent acquisitions, etc.)?

Let's not wait for Walt. Fire Hendry now and hire Depo.

With the sale of the Cubs upcoming, Hendry isn't going anywhere till the offseason. I'm not sure I'd want to be hired as "interim" GM right now for the Cubs...I'd say it's likely that the new owners will want to make their own GM hire.

I would definitely take DePodesta as the Cubs GM. He would be an enormous upgrade over what the Cubs have had recently. He's highly intelligent and has, what I believe, is the correct baseball philosophy. He was unfairly, egregiously singled out by the mainstream media as being simply a nerd. It centered around LoDuca, as the article mentions.

However, he's not Billy Beane. DePo struck me as a bit naive and wishy-washy in his baseball dealings. Beane is an eloquent wheeler-dealer. DePo will succeed at his next job (if that opportunity arrives) but I don't believe he's a GM savant.
