Rotoworld has described Dempster's Injury as a strained oblique. He will be sidelined a few days and will throw sometime mid week next week to see how it is. Expected not to go on DL.

Howry will sub until then.

Come on, Demp. Take your rest and then come back and be effective.

Glad that Howry's been looking pretty damn good (bad fielding in Texas aside) his last several appearances. I wonder if they thought about trying Marmol in the role.

good chance hendry steps up his efforts for gagne now. his quote on WSCR was encouraging. made it sound like jones was gone by monday when they are calling up a 12th pitcher and that the pitcher taking his spot wasn't coming up from minors.

What was his quote?

And my God, Gagne has been ridiculously good this year. For some reason (probably his recent injuries), I assumed he hadn't been that effective.

0.47 ERA, 970 ERA+, 0.895 WHIP

Why would the Rangers agree to a Jacques for Gagne deal?

I'm sure it wouldn't be a straight up deal.

Agreed. The Cubs would have to send a prospect or a wad of cash or both.

Marshall for Gagne?

Absolutely not. The Cubs really don't need Gagne-he would be nice, but he's not necessary. If you trade Marshall, you've just made a small improvement to your bullpen and gotten rid of your only good 5th starter option.

Gagne only has 12 teams that he can be traded to-I'm not sure that the Cubs are on that list.

If this is true (that Jones is going to get traded by tomorrow for a pitcher), my guess is that Jones is traded for a decent middle reliever, which would be just fine.

Is it common for someone to strain their oblique? Seems like there's been a dozen of thosei njuries this year, and they've ranged from day-to-day to a few weeks off on the 15 Day DL

Dempster is throwing today off the mound. If he is good, then he will probably be available for Friday. If he isnt, then he is headed to the DL.

Also Henry Blanco will be working out. He is going to try and throw without pain to 2nd base. If he is good to go, then he will be sent to AA or AAA for a rehab assignment. If he cant make it without pain, he will require surgery that is quite possibly career ending, and definitely season ending.

So think good thoughts today for both of these cats.

And for Kerry Wood. :D

Sorry, probably a bad thing, but I'm not gonna think good things for Henry, I'm hoping for a nice long 60 day DL trip.

Dream big.

Retirement, then we don't worry about his guaranteed contract in '08 and can let Soto/Bowen catch in peace.
