There's quite a few 22 year old and older players on the list. Are these guys converting from one position to another, rehabbing or starting over? Or are they recently drafted college players who aren't advanced enough for Boise? Is the extremely college heavy draft making it difficult to come up with 17/18 year old players for Mesa?

Most of these guys are college guys who were recently drafted or DFEs from last season - a few of them are going to go to Boise sooner or later, they don't belong in Mesa. This is what happens when you draft so many college guys, I guess. P Blake Parker is the only convert, he was a position player last season.

Tim Wilken is on the air with Mick during the Smokies game. Nothing too new, but interesting discussion all the same.

Iowa up 1-0 in the third on a Scott Moore solo HR.

Tennessee down 3-0 in the 5th. Veal: 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 5 K/3 BB. Veal got in trouble in the third inning by loading up the bases with 3 walks and giving up 2 soft singles for 2 runs. Colvin is 1/2 with his first AA single.

Daytona down 5-2 in the 6th inning. Kyle Reynolds has a solo HR, Reinhard struggled with his outing.

Peoria scoreless through 3, Renshaw has been solid.

Nice to see Larry Suarez in Mesa and not DSL.
Manager: "Suarez, I have some good news. I'm taking you out."

Suarez: "I thought you said you have some GOOD news."

Manager: "I do. I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico. Give me the ball."

I think that was the first commercial in that series.

Veal: 5+ IP, 6 ER, 9 H, 5 K/3 BB.

Veal seemed to deal with the same problems that have plagued him this season - lack of control (2 of the 3 BB scored) and tiring out, as all 3 guys he faced in the 5th inning reached and scored (thanks in part to reliever Grant Johnson). It looked like he had started to put things together again over the last four starts - he had a sub-3 ERA and a nice BAA in his June - so hopefully he gets it going again.

Great outing out of Renshaw after three consecutive bad starts.

By the way, Mesa's MiLB.com roster isn't complete - they should have 35 players and they only have 31. Guys who could/should (according to AZ Phil who's seen these guys playing at Mesa very recently) have made the 35-man roster include C Luis Bautista, RHP Kevin Kreier, RHP Simon Lee, IF Anthony Morel and OF Andres Quezada.

Also, RHP Yuri Higgins broke his non-throwing wrist.

You should have seen the double error play, it was awesome. To top it all, Chris Huseby got hurt backing up the errant throw as he dove for it and fell into the the Salem-Keizer bullpen.

Apparently there was a bench-clearing incident in the Iowa game after Clay Rapada hit a Nashville player - no punches or ejections.

With his two walks today Cedeno now has more BBs (18) than Ks (17), although his BABIP is still way high @ .388.

Might as well bring him up at this point. He can't be any worse than the garbage we put out at SS anyway. We really, really need a new SS.

Nice to see they are giving the kids a few lessons down on the farm. Would just hate to throw them willy nilly into the real Fight club. They might get brokened. (that is purposely misspelled at an attempt of humor)

i was at the game last night. ronny should have been 2-3 with 2 walks. he was robbed on two occasions. in his first at bat laynce nix made an incredible catch on what would have been a double. then in his second at bat he has a hard hit ball up the middle that was snagged on a diving play by the shortstop for a force at 2nd to end the inning. really great defensive plays.

ronny also had a bare-handed play at shortstop on a hard hit ball that took a bad bounce. he looked really good
