16 games in June: .533 OBP and .678 SLG (1.211 OPS).

From May 30 through June 17, he has added 55 points to his on-base, and 90 points to his slugging.

Will it last? I wonder if the Yankees might try to sell high by trading him to an NL contender (Dodgers, Padres, D-Backs, etc...) for young prospects, then take those prospects and turn them into an OF or 1B under contract through 2008 (like Teixeira, Helton, Griffey).

Abreu has always been a slow starter, IIRC. It's one of the reasons whey people hated him in Philly. He's good and will likely be good for the next couple of years. It would be stupid to trade him and I don't think a small market team could afford him.

The only way I see them trying to sell high is if the team falters but he keeps playing well, and they get further out of it. They've had a nice stretch, and I don't see them dealing Abreu now. With Giambi's situation a mess and lacking any real 1B, I think they will try and hold onto him for the duration.

I don't think you do recall correctly unless by "always been a slow starter" you mean "has had a couple of bad Aprils". other than that, there is no discernable pattern as to when Abreu does or does not hit well.

in 2006, April was his best month, July his worst

in 2005, April was his second worst month, May his best month, July his worst

in 2004, April was his second worst month (with a .882 OPS), in May his OPS was over 1, his worst was Aug

in 2003, April was his worst month, July was his best month

in 2002, April was his third worst month (.863 OPS), July his worst month.

2004-2006 splits, April was his second worst month, but he still had an .860 OPS. career splits, which include this year, April is his worst month, but he still had an .842 OPS. if anything can be discerned out of these splits it is that Abreu seems fairly consistent throughout the year with the exception of having a massive slump in the summer (July or August).

I think Abreu can still be decent for a year or two, but I think the days of the 900+ OPS are behind him.

The Yankees will not be selling at the deadline unless they have another losing streak between now and then that keeps them around 12 back.

Abreu's turnaround came at the same time as the Yank's turnaround. I don't think people would be very happy if they got rid of him for prospects. Melky is pretty good, but there are are a ton of cheap 1B options the yanks could go pickup without really having to give up top prospects.
