Looks like Aramis is at least gonna be day-to-day. And thanks to the brilliant idea to have 12 pitchers, 6 OFs, and 1 backup IF....that leaves no backup IF while Aramis is out. Meaning, another roster move has to be made.

If they don't DL Ramirez, there's only 2 logical guys at risk of losing their roster spot: Angel Pagan and Sean Gallagher. If it's Pagan, the Cubs are still a bat short, if Aramis is unavailable. IF it's Gallagher, it's the shortest callup in ML history.

I think a big key is who the Cubs bring up. On the 40-man, there's ML experience with Cedeno, Moore and Fontenot. But could this be a chance for Eric Patterson? Would the Cubs make another 40-man move to get Eric in everyday at 2B, and move DeRosa to 3B? Is Eric even in the Cubs plans at 2B anymore?

Pagan has to go. He's so incredibly worthless with Pie playing everyday. It's a no-brainer. If Ramirez looks to be out for 6-7 games, I could see them bringing in an extra bat and sending Gallagher back down.

I don't see Gallagher being sent down that soon, considering the Cubs consider it important enough to have 12 pitchers that they added Gallagher to the 40-man roster to bring him up. Sending Pagan back down seems like the most logical move to me; with Pie looking like he's back up to stay Pagan isn't needed, since Jones could fill in at center if needed. Another possibility, if either of them are still slightly banged up, would be to place Floyd or Murton on the DL. One way or another, if a move is made I'd bet that it is an outfielder that gets replaced.

My first choice, of course, would be for Jones to be traded.

Should be Fontenot. Also I would bite the bullet and start working Soriano at 2nd in case ARam is going to be out more than a couple of days.

I would forget about the idea of Soriano at 2nd.

Can't see it being Gallagher so quickly. I'd think Fontenot, Moore or Cedeño (if Cedeño is up, that would mean DeRosa would move to third for a while) would be the obvious and logical choice.

I'm thinking it will be Cedeno also.

Think we will see a lot of this lineup:

Theriot

Pie

Soriano

Lee

Floyd

Barrett

Derosa

Izturis

Not that bad if Pie keeps hitting and Floyd does what he did last night more consistently.

It will be Fonte, with Pegan being optioned. I just heard that Aramas is expected to miss the Atlanta series. Expect an announcement sometime early tomorow.

I know you guys aren't going to like to hear this, but optioning Murton makes more sense at this point than optioning Pagan. Since coming up, Pagan is hitting .298/.365/.532, and he plays good defense at all three outfield positions. Murton, on the other hand, is hitting .264/.341/.355, and plays mediocre defense only on the outfield corners. I like Murton as much as anyone, but he's not hitting and needs regular ABs. Of course, finding anywhere to dump Jones makes even more sense.

If Ramirez is hurt enough that he's going to miss a week or so, I wish the Cubs would just go on and put him on the DL. Soriano limped and struggled his way through a few weeks after he came back from his leg injury, and he's still not running at 100%...it would be nice to get someone completely healthy before bringing them back.

I actually agree with you, but for different reasons. I'd like to see Murton sent down to AAA to get at-bats because he sure isn't getting them at the Major League level. I have no problem with Pagan rotting on the bench.

If Aramis is out 6-7 games we could be in trouble.

Pagan's 4 for his last 20 over his last ten games. He still has a .364 BABIP in spite of his recent slump. While I think he's a decent 5th OF, I don't think his recent success will last much longer.

Murton would the one to go down. It would help him get some at bats.
