I don't think anybody knows for sure, but Lou's postgame comments suggested that he thought Barrett was to blame (although that may be a biased thought based on his general feelings toward Barrett). In any case, even if the passed ball wasn't Barrett's fault, the throwing error certainly was.

The throwing error was a relatively minor issue. If the ball doesn't get past him, it's not an issue at all. For that matter, it wouldn't really have been an issue if Zambrano hadn't totally sucked, either. It's certainly not justification for calling Barrett out right there in the dugout.

Barrett deserved to be reprimanded for his lack of concentration and awareness.

Just not by Z, the master of meltdowns and resident wacko.

And certainly not in the demonstratively childish way he was, either.

barrett deserves some of the blame. Z gets most of it. Knowing Z's history, he clearly is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. It would not suprise me if he made a stupid mistake and tried to pawn it off as Barrett's mistake on the signs. Also who knows why Barrett went back down there? It is possible that Z was yelling things and trying to instigate things further. It seems like Barrett may have a temper when things get physical, so it may have been on his own.

Maybe they were fighting over who had the better McDonalds commercial?

Clearly, the better one was the Zambrano eyebrow spot.

I liked the one Barrett pulled on Dye.

Watch out for a Pierzysnki/Dye fight soon.

i agree. Z is a way better actor, that must really make Barret jelous.

I've never forgiven Barrett for 2004 and the idiocy with Oswalt. Barrett is just plain dumb and needs to go. He was a FA, no players were harmed in acquiring Barrett, so there is no harm in sending him on his way. Now.

Zambrano, we've seen enough too. Maybe he's hurt, who knows. But I let him get a few good starts under his belt, then trade him while I can. No way I resign him to a megamillions deal, I'm already screwed with one of those for the longterm (Soriano). Zambrano is entirely too volatile and unpredictable to spend that kind of money on.

lou is getting pissed and he's aiming it at barrett-

"get somebody in here that can catch the ball or run the bases".

How is this directed at Barrett when clearly almost the entire team can't run the bases and none of them can catch the ball? Barrett had a passed ball, but Murton and Theriot had their own share of drops. Soriano constantly gets picked off, so does Barrett and others. Man, the list of players that need to be let go is getting larger and larger.

Exactly. And I think that that is what Lou was aiming for in his comment. I think he threw Hendry under the bus in that comment as much as any specific player.

Zambrano's actions in the dugout were inexcusable.
Agreed; I'm just saying that it takes two to tango and that Barrett gets SOME of the blame. This may be just debating semantics, but my comments started in response to Mizzou's post that it was ALL Zambrano's fault, while I'm saying that it's MAINLY Zambrano's fault, but partially Barrett's as well. I suspect we're really thinking the same but just using different semantics.

Yea I think Mizzou is bout the only one whos saying its all fault one way.

Let me rephrase what I said, or what I was trying to say at least. Zambrano is 100% responsible for the incident occurring. You can obviously place some blame on Barrett for Round 2, but if Zambrano doesn't start acting like an idiot after the inning ended, the whole thing would have never happened.

Barrett was wrong for point to the scoreboard.

Actually, I think that's completely justified in that situation.

whole situation is avoided if barrett just mans up and takes it.

Whole situation is avoided if Zambrano isn't a baby, or doesn't try and blame his team for the 13 hits and six earned runs.

Whole situation is also avoided if Barrett plays like a competent major league catcher rather than committing both a passed ball and an error to allow a run to score, then following Zambrano to the clubhouse for more. Zambrano's mainly to blame, but Barrett isn't innocent here.

All this who's fault is this fight thing kinda misses the point, in my mind. Two people acted unprofessionally and acted like spoiled 16 year-olds on a playground trying to prove their man-hood.

If Barrett or Z put as much into improving their respective games as they put into fighting each other today, we might have actually won the damned game. Scoring 5 runs on a day with Z on the mound should be an automatic win and I'm sick and flippin tired of this team's crap.

Barrett it looks to have started the second fist fight. Judging by that last comment "I just want someone who can catch the abll and run the bases" sounds like Barrett is probably gone.

Where do you get that was aimed at Barrett? MHO...it was aimed at Hendry.

Lou also said "What the what the heck are we supposed to do? Ya know? I know what I would do.Ok.But we'll leave it at that."

Wonder who thats directed at? I'm also wondering why Randy Bush had a press conference.

Jim Hendry was not at the ballpark but out scouting a player for the upcoming draft. Yes, I'm serious.

So two players just got in a fight and there's no one in the clubhouse to seperate them or anything? It's not the players who are idiots.

And Barrett definitely doesn't deserve to be the only one to blame, Z does too. Gosh, a bunch of idiots all over the place.

And thanks for dropping your trade value, dolts.

Really, where was Yosh?

Visting clubhouse...he's been there for years now.

Z would have just jumped on someone else had Barrett not made the mistakes he did.

That was my interpretation too. Lou was saying he needs better players, and Hendry's the one in charge of getting the players.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with him doing that sort of thing. Considering the amount of money top drafts picks are getting these days, Hendry has to be comfortable with the decision to take those guys. Granted, his scouts are the ones who will ultimately influence his decisions one way or another, but if I were a GM and was about to sink millions into a player, I'd like to know firsthand what I'm getting myself into before making that kind of a commitment.

Lou sounds fed up in is morning press conference.

He has more meetings with players this year then any time in his career.

He's seen things here he's never seen anywhere else.

Again stated that either play baseball right or we need to better players.

Somewhere Dusty Baker is laughing...

This whole Cubsteam is a joke....Biz Z is the biggest headcase I've ever seen and there is no excuse for his actions following the inning. He needs to go reguardless of his talent. Im embarrased to be a Cubs fan today.
