Who knows, but I do know if he's traded now, the Cubs will once again be in the same position as they almost always seem to be... "buy high and sell low" - the exact opposite philosophy you need to put together a long term competitive team.

I'm somewhat ashamed to say it because I've been a rabid Cub fan since 1964, but I only watched a few games last year and haven't been able to make myself watch a single one this year.

I have too many other things to do IRL to allow myself to get emotionally attached to a team put together the way this one has been for 2-3 years.

I've come to the conclusion that the lack of success of this franchise lies for the most part on the folks who evaluate the talent, make the trades and signings and put the product on the field.

The manager and players certainly carry some of the load, but when you put a lousy product on the field most of the time and the revenue keeps flowing in no matter what, there's no incentive to do a better job.

It's really an embarassment

can teixera play lf or right field if im not mistaken hes only played 1b for texas.

He could play a corner.

Yes, what we need is yet another corner outfielder. He can platoon with Floyd, Jones, and Murton.

Or, we could bench Jones and Floyd and play a guy who's actually good at baseball.

You wouldn't let the presence of mediocrity prevent you from aquiring talent.

25 cents on the dollar

So, Teixiera?

Either way, I'd rather get 25 cents today than have nothing in 6 months.

should have drafted him in the first place.

In retrospect, yes. Not winning but coming oh-so-close in 2003 screwed up this organization in so many ways.

I felt that way in preretrospect, but I let the prior crowd talk me into Prior after the draft.

If Zambrano is available, he will still be the most sought after pitcher at the deadline. If he becomes a free agent, he will be the most sought after pitcher in the offseason. Zambrano can and should net the Cubs good pre-arbitration talent and good minor leaguers. Despite his numbers, he would still significantly help any team, and give them a jump on re-signing him.

you could say that about a lot of players. Mine as well fix the mistake and trade for him now.

When you consider any deal for prospects, consider who the clown is that's picking the minor leaguers.

Teixiera, please.

I don't remember that. And I don't know why anyone would have rather had Tex than Prior before the draft.

Wait, so you weren't sold on the Kelton/Montanez/Hill/Choi IF?

I don't question Hendry's ability to locate a prospect (Murton), I just question what he values as a good major leaguer.

Oh don't get me started. I was about Draft Tex for months. V talked me into Prior.

At the time my logic was they were similarly great, but being a pitcher, Prior was much more likely to break down physically, and the Cubs were devoid of offensive talent.

Find a team that will take Zambrano, Prior and Wood together in the same deal. End it all with one swing.

Don't you mean Zambrano, Prior, Wood, Eyre, Jones, Howry, and Izturis?
