Cuevas? Why does that sound familiar??? any one have a report on him? When was he drafted/signed?

The Cubs got him in the 36th round last season out of Pierce College (a junior college in LA's San Fernando Valley). He's huge - 6'9 - and threw in the upper 80s and low 90s in college. Very raw but very intriguing prospect.

"The Don" goes up against Joe Woerman, who won the Southern League Pitcher of the Week award and hasn't allowed a run in the last nineteen innings.

It should be a GREAT pitching matchup if both guys are on their "A" game tonight.

Samardzija has really been bad this year. Much more worried about him than Veal, because 1. Veal has performed at a high level before and 2. because Veal has much better stuff. Never been a big fan of Jeff, but he should be nowhere near this bad.

I know it's early in his career, but I get the feeling that Samardzija's upside is a guy like Jon Garland. Pitches to contact and doesn't walk too many guys, but is somewhat durable and keeps his team in games, most of the time. (although I still don't know how Garland succeeds). It seems to me that he doesn't stand a chance of being a Brandon Webb type ground ball pitcher who still strikes some people out, even if it's only 7 per 9. Samardzija isn't striking anybody out, and while you have to expect him to need time to refine his game, he should be able to rack up some k's at this level. Even Garland struck out 6+ per 9 as a 19 year old in high A ball.

I've read about his 50% change up stuff, but at some point you'd like to see the guy put up some decent numbers.

But at least he didnt have to pitch in the cold and get his confidence up by coming to the Midwest League.

Box score has Koerber starting for Daytona tonight.

Yeah, odd that Atkins went before Koerber after Koerber went first a couple times in a row.

Good for Veal.

Daytona lost 5-1, Colvin went 0/4 with 3 Ks.

Nick Nolde! I totally remember him from the Midwest League a couple of years ago. Pretty sure he umped here the year that Peoria hosted the all-star game.

He obviously needs a bit of fiber himself.

I only got to the Monday game (I'm terrible) and he was behind home. He was getting some comments on both sides. I only know this because I had 1st row seats. Listach had a couple of altercations with the 3rd base umpire on a couple of calls at 2nd.

Not sure what happened tonight but I'm sure Ron will give us an update. I really hope to get to the park tomorrow and see Sean throw.

Apparently his night is done on the above totals.

3 GO/8 FO/7 K and he hit 1 batter.

On another note, Woerman has hit 3 Smokies tonight.

Junior at 3 H, 1 BB and 7 K through 6 IP. No clue on the PC.

He's done, so I take it he was around 100. Petrick gave up 1 in the 7th. :(

Miguel Cuevas-Novas struggled a bit in his season debut: 3.2 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 4 K/3 BB. Peoria tied at 3 in the 8th.

Smokies win 5-1. Apparently Nick had some more in him:

West Tenn Diamond Jaxx Manager Eddie Rodriguez ejected by HP umpire Nicholas Nolde. (8th);

Looks like I missed a good one.

Peoria wins 4-3. Papelbon with 3 shutout innings for the win, he really has come on strong.
