reviewing my atrocious draft, i realized i was pretty fortunate to have good exempt players. so who does everyone think are the best exempt players in the league?

i have four good ones in fielder, papelbon, hill and martin. i would supsect that fielder and papelbon may be among the 10-15 best in the league, but i can't think of all the good ones.

thoughts?

If he hadn't had a cup of coffee (42 ABs in 2004) Adrian Gonzalez would have still had one exempt year remaining and would have been a good candidate. If he continues his current hitting the rest of the year Garko may be one.

A lot of guys losing exemptions this year. I lose arguably 2 of the top 4 coming into this year (Sizemore and Wright, with Ryan Howard and Holliday being the others). Both of them are also done with exemptions.

Top exempt hitters are Hanley Ramirez (Cakes), McCann (Lynx), Zimmerman (Quakers), Kelly Johnson (NC), and Fielder (GHS)

Top pitchers are: Hamels (Raw), King Felix (VooDoo), Cain (Fuzzy)

Edit: the only top 30 hitters in scoring who are exempt next year (by my quick count) are H Ramirez, Hardy, Uggla, K Johnson.

The exempt pitchers among the top 30 are: Gorzellany, Shields, Cain, Hamels, Hill, Maine, and Verlander.

I would add Liriano to the list.

My exempts are: Igwamura, Chris Ray, J. Broxton, Saito, and Cantu.

Of course, My true exempt value will be my big guys in the minors w/ Longoria, Martinez, and Pie.

Last year was the first year I had to claim points for Miggy Cabrera and VMart which is why VMArt is now on Tim's team.

Yeah, the names were just off the top of my head of guys who have put up productive seasons, already, yet get more exempt time. I didn't include Verlander on my original list.

Also, guys like Lincecum, Alex Gordon, and the like who will lose their rookie status this year are all great keepers.

I don't think prospects should count here as those guys may or may not turn out to be great - or even average. Hell, even Gordon hasn't looked so hot so far.

yeah, that's what i was thinking too...just guys who currently really good.

add fielder to your list of exempt guys in the top 30. he's the highest scoring exempt batter. fielder's actually the sixth highest scoring batter overall, and he'll move up after today.

if i had to choose one exempt hitter, it'd be fielder or hanley...and i had hanley last year too...

i remember at the time i didn't really want him. he's turned into a much better player than i thought he'd be.

I like my exempt players. Josh Hamilton, BJ Upton, Matt Cain and James Shields are all looking pretty respectable.
