Very close game between Fuzzy Logistics and me so far (he leads by 6.5 points, with 5 starters remaining for each of us). We currently have the second and fourth highest scores of the week.

Oliver Perez gives up 3 R in 7 innings and gets 8 Ks. But the 3 R were 3 solo HRs...got burned on TBA. Lame.

you're complaining that that outing scored 14? you've got to be kidding me?

Wow! Didn't expect that. Quakers got back into the game in a big way, when we had 1 start apiece. Marquis puts up -1.5 (thanks mostly to Hermida, who I benched after a trade). Big offensive day helped combat my only bat that showed up last night, Justin Morneau.

Nah, I'm complaining about Perez...I was excited when I saw the box score said 3 hits, and only when I dug deeper did I see the 3 H were 3 HRs. I guess I'm complaining about the false hope Perez gave me.

gotcha. perez had an average start with 14 points.

I think someone suggested we go to a system that only punished runs instead of total bases. My biggest concern there is how to handle unearned runs. to me, some are not the pitchers fault but some are so I am not sure how to approach that.

thoughts?

prince fielder is awesome.

ha ha

Slappy responds to getting benched with 4 XBH. The Cakes are being very generous in giving back points this week as well.

And on the flip side, some unearned runs really are the pitcher's fault. For example, if a runner reaches first on an error with two out and later scores, the run is considered unearned, but is still really the pitchers' fault because a good pitcher should be able to get out of it with a runner on first and 2 out.

I do think the idea of continuing to deduct for total bases allowed, but at a lower rate, is good (I assume we're talking about changes for next year, not changing the scoring during the year).

I think the overall picture of pitcher scoring is perfect. If there was a way to keep the scores the same (i.e. 6 IP, 10 TB, 2 ERs, 5 Ks starts = same # of points as now), but we could lower IP points and lessen the blow of TBA, then it would be perfect.

Right now, I think the end justifies the means. But I would like it more if the means and end were the same. Know what I mean?

how can you lower those values and keep the same score? The ratio of IP to TBA is the same this year as it was last - both are just worth more to increase overall scoring. I think people are blowing TBA points against out of proportion because they are dramatically subtracted overnight. If they were accounted for during the game, I bet no one would be complaining.

I think you're right about that, at least as far as I'm concerned. It would seem better to be credited with 20 points to start with rather than being credited for 30 points when you go to bed, then losing 10 points overnight. It's the same result in the end, but psychologically it's different. I don't know why Sportsline can't keep up with TBA in real time like they do with the other categories.

I wonder if we changed it to -1 for single, -2 for double etc it would keep up in realtime? I might try that.

one out away from salvaging at least a slightly below shitty start.
