Pie is 3-3 so far today with a triple, HR, and 2 RBIs. That brings his BA up to an even .400 and his OPS up to 1.062.

Cotts with a strong outing, going 4 inning while giving up 0 runs on 1 hit, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. He also induced 9 groundouts to just 1 flyout.

So again, why in the hell is Jones still starting in CF? Seriously call up Pie and let him play everyday

not gonna happen unless Jock gets traded.

3 deep fly outs by Patterson  Sounds like he's still hitting the ball hard, but didn't have anything to show for it. He did walk once, giving him 10 in 25 games this month, which is a pretty solid rate. April he walked only 5 times in 21 games.

Peoria sweeps the doubleheader as they win 4-1. Great start for Carrillo going 5, allowing 4 hits, 0 runs, 6 K's/0 BB's. Ruhlman gave up a run in the 7th, but still got his 2nd save of the season. Canzler was 2/2 with a double and walk. Jonathan Mota was 2/3 with a double. Yusuf was 1/3 with a double and two driven in. Camp and Malone had the other RBI's.

Bring up Pie NOW!

So he can rot on the bench? Jones or Murton needs to be moved first.

Why can't Jones rot on the bench?

Because that's not how veterans are treated on 90% of MLB teams. It's lame.

It isn't often that the minor league option is superior, but this is one of those times. As Cub fans we are not used to this. But sometimes veterans are signed as placeholders for prospects. Here the prospect is actually ready on time. What are we waiting for? Jones ain't hitting, and it's not like Pie hit .080 while he was here. The margin for gain is quite high.

I have to agree with you, jock has been terrible.

Even Pie can probably match those pathetic numbers.

It's interesting how this season has unfolded for the Cubs. I can remember talking with alot of guys in the organization before the end of the Dusty era and came to the conclusion that the Cubs could either hold a fire sale on the majority of the veterans and go with mostly kids in 2007 or sign some free agents and try to go for it in 2007.

Obviously, the Cubs chose the latter and to this point have chosen the wrong direction. While there is talent on this club, in the long run this club would have been better off by doing a complete overhaul and going with mostly kids.. Imagine what the lineup could have been:

1B: Lee

2B: Theriot

SS: Cedeno

3B: Moore or McGehee

LF: Murton

CF: Pie

RF: Coats

C: Barrett or Soto

with a rotation of Zambrano, Hill, Guzman, Marshall and Marmol or Mateo. On paper it doesn't look good, but long term things would have been better..

Just my humble opinion...

Ramirez is supposedly going to be 29 next month, so I don't necessarily think that paying him undoes your thesis. The killer is guys like Jones (Pie), DeRosa (Patterson), Izturis (Theriot) and Floyd (Murton) taking playing time from guys younger, cheaper and not objectively worse. I do think that Cedeno is beyond hope.

As far as the starting pitchers, if Marquis is OK the rest of the way, his 2yr/$15 million contract will be easy to trade if the Cubs want to liquidate. And Lilly's 3/30 wouldn't require that much 'juice' to move either. I am also one of those who thinks that the mileage on Zambrano's arm makes him expendable at 6/110.
