Anthony Reyes demoted to AAA, Wellemeyer to start

There's no link yet, it was just announced on the radio. This is obviously a dumb move as illustrated since the candidate deemed next in line is Wellemeyer.

Reyes: 0-7, 6.08 ERA, .259 BAA, 1.35 WHIP, 2.2 K/BB

Wainwright: 4-3, 6.02 ERA, .346 BAA, 1.91 WHIP, 2.26 K/BB

Wells: 2-8, 6.10 ERA, .251 BAA, 1.44 WHIP, 1.5 K/BB

 

It clearly shows that at least Reyes has potential to improve and that he's had squat for run support.

I think there were some problem signs that Reyes can work out in the minors. seems the runs he gives up comes in bunches, which may indicate a problem pitching out of the stretch. he also has a high p/ip. when looking at the other options you gave, they probably can't send Wells down, and Wainwright has thrown well 3 of the past 4 games.

after 4 pretty good outings to start 07, Kip Wells has been brutal. Aren't they supposed to catch lighting in a bottle with these guys?
