By the way, I'm going up to the Bay area this weekend and leaving the game threads in the very incapable hands of Jon.

My god, what were you thinking? You're trusting the rookie?

Iowa's game was suspended in the 5th with Iowa leading 7-1. Koyie Hill was 3/3 with two doubles and two RBI's. Buck Coats was 2/3 with 4 RBI's. EPatt had a double and walk, and Felix was 1/3 with a stolen base. The only Iowa position player to not get a hit was Fontenot, but he did reach base on a walk.

Peoria just took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 8th on a 2-run HR by Lansford. Russ Canzler also has a 2-run HR for the Chiefs. Roquet is on for the 9th to get the save for the Chiefs.

All boxes posted.

They have yet to determine when to resume the Iowa/Round Rock game.

I was at the Smokies game again tonight, and they got smoked, 8-2. Two innings really did them in, giving up 4 runs in the 3rd (off Hart) and 3 in the 9th (off Mendez). Fox caught tonight and allowed a stolen base and also had a throwing error. I also think he could have stopped one of the wild pitches charged to Mendez. On the plus side, he did hit a home run, one of the few offensive highlights. Salas continued his hot hitting, going 2 for 3 today after going 4 for 4 yesterday. Cates was the only other hitter to get 2 hits. Fuld, Fox, McGehee, Craig, and Simokaitis each had 1 hit.

So, at what point do we say that Pie needs MLB exposure to continue to develop?

.398/.467/.559/1.026, 13 BB, 14 K in ~110 PA's

I think it's just about time to take what we can get for Jacque.

It's going to be a bumpy ride, but it needs to happen.

SmokiesBaseball.com"]McDougall ignites Suns

Marshall McDougall homered and knocked in a season-high five runs to lead Jacksonville past Tennessee, 8-2, on Thursday night at Smokies Park.

McDougall, who rose to fame in 1999 by hitting six home runs in a game for Florida State University, slugged a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the third inning to put the Suns (26-21) on top, 4-0. He singled in the eighth and stroked a two-run double in the ninth to finish 3-for-5.

Chin Lung Hu went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base, while Juan Gonzalez was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs for Jacksonville.

Starter Eric Cyr (4-1) limited the Smokies (24-21) to two runs on eight hits in six innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. The 28-year-old Canadian has won four straight decisions and has a 2.47 ERA in 10 starts.

Luis Gonzalez worked two scoreless frames and Jonathan Meloan pitched a perfect ninth to snap the Smokies' four-game winning streak.

Tennessee starter Kevin Hart (2-5) took the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits in six innings. He fanned six and did not issue a walk.

Jake Fox connected for a solo homer, his ninth, while Issmael Salas and Gary Cates each contributed two hits for the Smokies. --Zack Hample/MLB.com

DaytonaCubs.com"]Disappointing Road Trip Continues in Fort Myers

Miracle Shutout Cubs, 5-0

By: Matt Martinez

FT. MYERS, FL - It's been awhile since the Cubs have scored a run- 20 innings to be exact. Ryan Mullins was sensational against Daytona tonight as he went eight strong scoreless innings, scattering three hits while walking just one.

Daytona (21-25) fell for the fifth straight time to a Fort Myers (19-28) team that has spent most of the year in the cellar of the Florida State League West.

Scott Koerber took the hill for the Cub's for only the second time as a starter and lasted five plus innings, allowing four earned runs on only four base hits. Koerber was relieved by Joel Santo in the sixth, as Koerber left the game with the bases loaded. On one pitch, Santo forced Edward Ovalle to hit into a 6-4-3 double play to help end the scoring threat. But an RBI single off the bat of Whit Robbins allowed another inherited runner to score, and after six innings, the Miracle lead 4-0.

Fort Myers would tack on one more in the seventh as player-coach Luis Ugueto ripped an RBI single into left to score the game's final run.

Daytona's bats never awakened throughout the game, as the Cubs were shutout. Daytona only managed five base hits and only one was for extra bases (Tyler Colvin's ninth inning double).

The Cubs will try to get back on track tomorrow night at Hammonds Stadium at 7:05et in Fort Myers. All Cubs games are broadcasted locally on 1380 WELE or worldwide at daytonacubs.com.
