What the heck has happened to him? Anyone heard of any specific adjustments he made this year in the minors? He flamed out after a strong spring training last year, and I expect him to regress this year eventually as well. But is there any reason to think he might be able to conitnue hitting at a decent clip over the long haul? He's been on an absolute tear (sample size arguments aside) so far since coming back up.

No adjustments. He barely had a .700 OPS at Iowa this season (.250/.310/.414).

He's just a bad hitter who seems to catch fire when he's called up before quickly cooling down.

Yikes, color me underinformed. Didnt see the AAA OPS number. Anyway, thanks to Angel for being the game saver today... And almost yesterday.

He had a hot week last year once returning from injury. The key is keeping his playing time limited.

Wasn't he doing well before his early injury last year, too? He seems to catch fire early and them flame out hard.

I never understand the hate for Angel Pagan. I think he's a pretty good player who gets the job done. He has a lot of room to improve in terms of batting over the long haul though, but he seems to be pretty clutch.

i also like Angel.

He got a bum deal with the injury last year.

Dusty is real high on him too. Was talking him up on the game monday night.

Still just a kid, hope he can keep on keeping on.

Like i said in the Game thread...May 18th and our most effective hitters in the lineup are Pagan and Theriot. Who would have thought that before the season started?

Well, we know there's no such thing as clutch, so I won't address that.

I don't hate Pagan. I think he can be a fine 5th OF. I would be fine with him even spelling Pie from time to time in the future. I think he can give you a .275/.330/.370 type of line, which is acceptable from a 5th OF, but for a fraction of the cost that a similar vet would cost. But that is all he is. He's never going to be a solid everyday OF. He's a backup.

And Riot doesn't look like he's slowing down anytime soon.

He can't hit. He hit .247/.306/.394 in the majors last year and has a minor league career line of .281/.340/.371, which includes a line of .271/.333/.395 in his last full year at AAA (in 2005).

He's also not great when it comes to stolen bases, but maybe he's improving there.

He's fine for the back end of the bench, but you don't want him to be seeing the starting lineup much.

I like angel... I just kinda cringed when hendry said he had "beltran" like skill sets.

Both are Puerto Rican That has to count for something, right?

Right now you have got to keep Pagan in center. I don't care how long jacque sits on the bench and gets pissed. Jacque or Murton is traded sometime this season I'm pretty sure. I'm hoping it is Jacque

depends on what the job is. if the job is being a 5th OF/25th man, fine. otherwise, no.

He has been very good so far...can it last?

No, not for the long haul at least. But maybe through the weekend of even the next week.

Woohoo! I'll take it.

Can we make Eyre good for like 2 days at least?

It'll last about as long as it takes for the scouts to dust off the game film they have on how to beat him.

Didn't read the whole thread, but I'm all for Angel in center right now.

I mean Jacque is obviously on the block so he has to get some PT for the the sake of the suiters (if there are any). But I really like Angel, he seems to genuinely care about the teams W-L. You can't say that for every player unfortunately.

Obviously he isn't going to keep this up and will cool off, but he's a solid 4th OF at this point IMO.

Agreed. This can't last too long.

I'm OK with Rosie O'Donnell in CF if she can hit close to 500 for a stretch. Beehatch best be riding pine when she suddenly remembers who she is.

Rosie O'Donnell? Where do you come up with this?
