I think it's about time he gets appreciated. He saved us tonight. He's been flat out unbelievable this year. Edited by C.C.

I actually supported the signing although not too strongly. I was just optimistic based on the assumption Rothschild would know what to do with him. He has definitely passed all expectations.

I swear, after I stayed up to watch last night's suck fest, I was convinced that Marquis would pick this game to return to last year's form.

Crow.... MMMM GOOD

I definitely agree that Rothschild deserves kudos for Marquis' performance, even if all he gave to Marquis was confidence. That said, part of me still believes that the other shoe will drop, be it from more homers on those warm summer days or whatever. But I firmly believed he was unnecessary and therefore a bad signing through spring training. On this count I was very wrong as Marquis has pitched brilliantly, especially when we've needed him most. Here's to his keeping it up.

PS I didn't realize how much of a New Yorker Marquis is. Apparently he's from Staten Island, and you can really tell.

I'm impressed, but it won't last.

That's not to say he'll be as bad as he's been in recent years, but he's shown pretty much every year that he loses some steam in the 2nd half of the season. But I'll happily enjoy all the success that he has.

If he can throw up a 4.50 I'd be happy as a clam.

I'm not sure that's completely true-in the data I have, he's been up and down with that.

In 2002, he was much better in the first half

In 2003, he was a little better in the second half

In 2004, he was a little better in the second half

In 2005, he was a little better in the first half

In 2006, he was much better in the first half.

So he's a first-half pitcher, but his two best years were split down the middle, and didn't have that much of a difference either year between first half and second half.

Thanks for checking up on that, sheds a whole new light on the situation IMO. The only thing I don't see there is a little worse in the 2nd half however, so either this season will be a first or hes gonna bomb the rest of the way.

I think the year you want is 2005-he was a little better in the first half, little worse in the 2nd half.

As with anything having to do with the Cubs, I'm cautiously optimistic, yet expecting crappiness. I just flat out did not understand why the Cubs got Marquis when Suppan was on the market, it just leads me to believe that Rothschild saw something significantly wrong the last year and thought that it was very fixable. Like many, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, but hats off to this guy, he's been awesome.

I recall reading that Larry did find a flaw in his delivery, and was able to correct it during their off-season workout together. I mean Hendry wouldn't have signed the guy without Rothschild's recommendation methinks...

Jason Marquis has been pitching like how I expected him to pitch. It looks like he has regained that 04 form that he had.

I'll grant you were much more optimistic about this signing than most of us were. But something tells me a 1.70 ERA isn't how you expected him to pitch.

Heh, well I'm happy with a 1.70 ERA, which I would had him pegged for around the 5.00 ERA at of this point.

my opinion when he was signed was a "wait and see" attitude. i didn't tear my hair out like most people, nor did I predict anything great for him. i'm very happy to take everything positive he can give

How did you think Jeff Weaver was going to pitch this season?

The other good thing to note is that Marquis has already put up 47 2/3 innings. So he almost is at 1/4 of the innings he will probably pitch this year.

I was completely wrong on that. I will always have that Weaver fan in me.

This thread will probably jinx Marquis

I started it..So if he gets rocked, you guys know who to blame

He was already jinxed when he came to the Cubs, so the Cubs goat jinx when combined with his jinx actually produced a negating effect which resulted in unjinxing him for the next 99 years (if he lives that long).

He predicted an ERA over 15.
