Phillies right-hander Freddy Garcia was injured Sunday night when he ran into an equipment cart that had stopped along the warning track in San Francisco's ballpark.

Garcia bruised and scraped his left shin in the collision, raising question as to whether he will be able to make his scheduled start Monday night in the opener of a three-game series at Arizona. Garcia, who was running to try to catch a fly ball in center field, toppled onto the cart used by the grounds crew and was clearly in pain. He was quickly carted off the field on the vehicle.

Add that to the list of this years screwball injuries in baseball.

And he was carted off the field by the obstacle he fell over?

HAHAHAHA!

Reminds me of the Monty Python bit where a pallbearer drops dead due to the strain; the other pallbearers pick him up, plop him into the same casket and stagger on.

But seriously, this injury is so Cub I wonder if one of our guys simply forgot they were supposed to run into equipment yesterday.

There's got to be one of those Mastercard Priceless jokes in there somewhere.

It's stories like this that makes me scared to go outside. If so many freak accidents happen to these ball players, then I'm gonna be due for one anyday now.

What the heck was he doing chasing down fly balls in the outfield in the first place?

Shagging fly balls is probably the more appropriate terminology.

A lot of pitchers do it. Some act like they enjoy shagging balls more than they like stepping onto the mound.

Ahhhhh. Oh well, hate it for the guy. Shin injuries suck something fierce, too.
