Yikes. The contract is going to cost the Yankees $7.5 million in luxury taxes, meaning the Yankees are going to be paying roughly $26 million for 4+ months of Roger Clemens.

That's incredible, I hadn't thought of that part.

Sheesh, if the Cubs don't sign Z before the end of the year the Yankees will offer him freaking $200 million!

Do they have to pay luxury tax on the full salary or just what they'll actually be paying?

BP projects that for the $25+ million the Yankees will spend on Clemens and the luxury tax, they will get......... 1.5 incremental wins.

Adding Roger Clemens makes the Yankees a better team, and improves their chance to catch the Red Sox in the AL East, or secure the wild card if they can’t do so. They’re not as bad as they’ve looked in the season’s first five weeks, and the Red Sox are probably not quite as good as they’ve looked. (More on this later in the week.) However, the impact of Clemens is smaller than is perceived, because of three factors:

- The limited number of innings he will pitch.

- Clemens, while still effective, is nonetheless a 44-year-old with declining power moving into a tough division.

- Igawa likely not being as bad as the first month of his career would indicate.

By the way, how long before the Astros release Koby Clemens? Should be by the end of the month, I'd think.

sons of former/current ballplayers get extra breaks for sure. we had AJ Van Slyke here in State College last summer and he SUCKED. He was demoted from Class A to Short A when most guys of his ability would simply be cut

Roger Clemens is going to pitch for the New York Yankees?

Wow! I must not be paying attention to EVERY OTHER STORY ON SPORTSCENTER ABOUT HIS RETURN!

Here's ESPN's new rundown:

--Highlights of a game

--Clemens returns!

--Highlights of another game

--When will Clemens be ready?

--Highlights of another game

--What impact will Clemens have?

--Highlights of another game

--What did Clemens have for breakfast this morning?

Sheesh!

No idea. Based on those totals, though, I'd guess the full salary.

No kidding. And every ESPN [expletive] host and anchor screaming at us "THIS IS THE STORY!! THIS IS THE STORY!!"

Jesus, fine it's the damn story. Do we have to have it drilled into our skulls every 5 damn minutes?!?

Now I hear Golic whining that the only reason people are complaining about Clemens not being with the team is because it's New York. Jesus, that's [expletive]. The only reason this is receiving this kind of coverage AT ALL is because of your employer's east coast bias, Golic you moron.

I see that the Yankees play the Giants this year in interleague play. Can you possibly imagine the hype if Bonds is one short of the record and Clemens is pitching???

OMG...what if Bonds ties or breaks Aaron's record off of Clemens??
