Looks like Alfonso has finally broken out of that funk with the month of april, hopefully he can continue his hot hitting and get on base for the thumpers

I'm really starting to like having that impact, power bat in the leadoff spot. If the bottom of the order gets anything going, you have him right there ready to drive them in.

It's really a shame they couldn't hold on Monday night. They are looking good though.

I am amazed at how quickly his OPS is flying up. It's at 843 after today's game. I would never have guessed that number after his start. In fact, he passed DeRosa for the 3rd most productive offensive player on the team today, and he could easily pass Ramirez over the next day or two if he remains hot. I hope he can push that to around 900 or over.

There are high school players who could squeeze out two good games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

We should sign those guys then, cause we play the Pirates a lot.

I guess I'll wait until you are a believer.

it's amazing to me how people continue to look down upon other teams like the brewers and the pirates. last i checked, the brewers are comfortably ahead of the cubs, and the pirates have the same record as the cubs. not to mention the fact that the cubs were the worst team in the NL last year (behind both the brewers and the pirates...and everyone else) and weren't so hot the year before that.

does all the cubs' money trick people into thinking the cubs are some type of elite team or what?

I've been biting my tongue for the most part. I still think this team will win the division. It's been a bit rocky to start off, and I would have rather seen a nice transition for Lou, but I think they'll be clicking on all cylinders soon enough.

I have to tip the cap to Jason Marquis. Wish I could say the same for Izturis.

I'm reluctant to give credence to the theory that the CF thing was hurting him. I'm guessing it was just start of the new contract jitters.

I still wish he would bat fifth.

I've been biting my tongue, too. It was a very disheartening start for Lou and the Cubs. I've got my theories as to why, but they're just theories.

Given their roster, the Cubs should contend for this division and the wildcard. The Cubs offense was struggling with Soriano and the SSs really having terrible Aprils. But Alphy's back and with Theriot playing often at SS, the line-up looks better and more consistent with each passing game.

Over their last 10 games (since 4/21), the Cubs are averaging 5.9 runs per game. In their first 16 games of the season, they averaged 4.25 runs. In their last 10 games, they have had only 2 games in which they have scored less than 4 runs and only 3 in which have scored less than 5. In their first 16 games, they scored less than 4 runs 8 times, and less than 5 runs 10 times.

Will they keep up their recent pace. Likely not. But the Cubs should be one of the higher scoring teams in the league.

Amen bro. It's like we haven't gotten the memo out that Wood and Prior aren't anchoring the most dominant rotation in baseball like we all thought they would be.

This disdain for the Reds bugs me the most since I live near Cincy and follow them as well now; their starting pitching has gotten very good the last couple years.

Soriano started hitting two weeks ago, not just three days ago. Last 11 games: 18/45 (.400 BA). There were quite a few singles to start the streak, but the power has come out in the last few games as well.

I think most of the folks around would accept his current line at season's end (.313/.345/.863) with OPS boosted close .900 by the inevitable higher slugging that will come with more HR.

Can't you give them some credit for winning the series? Seriously, if they had lost 2 of 3 there would have been a lot of hand wringing about not getting the job done...

Give me a break, the guy has been a dynamic player for five years now... you might not like the signing but he was playing far, far below what could be reasonably expected from him.
