Not like I'm counting down or anything...but we've only got about 6 weeks left until Boise starts playing!

Hrm...taking a stab at Boise's rotation before any potential draftees join the mix (which will obviously screw things up): Chris Huseby, Robert Hernandez, Mark Pawelek, Mike Billek and Taylor Parker (or Kitt Kopach).

Go me!

I wish I knew what my problem was this season. I'm off to a pretty bad start. :(

Maybe you should spend more time focusing on baseball and less time on internet message boards?

Angel having an awful outing. 3 IP, 7 ER, 4 H, 2 K/4 BB, 1 HBP. Soto is 1 for 1 and is continuing his hot streak. Iowa down 7-0.

Daytona lost 7-6, Matt Avery blew the save and took the loss, giving up 1 (and an inherited runner) in the 8th. Ryan Harvey went 1 for 4 with his first HR of the season and another K.

Peoria down 4-0 in the 6th. Pina: 5.1 IP, 4 ER, 9 H, 7 K/1 BB, 2 HR.

Peoria lost 6-1.

Papelbon is getting the Ks but he's still struggling. I know he started the year sick which probably hurt a few of his outings, but still.

Iowa down 12-4 in the 7th. Pagan with a 3-run HR.

I know in the previous two games, the Cubs have asked Guzman to work on a few things in terms of location of his FB and slider and that threw of his control. Don't know if they asked him to work on those same things today too.

I have my worries about Guzman being a starter. He came back last year and didn't dominate Triple A (but I didn't expect him to coming off the injury). When he came to the majors, he was great in his 5 bullpen appearances, but terrible in his 10 starts.

Now we come to this year. In the games where he came in during the late innings in the spring, he did quite well. The one game he started, he had trouble finishing hitters off and that cost him. Then he gets put in the bullpen, and again he does quite well with lots of K's. Now he goes down to the minors and is struggling again.

I'm not saying that he will flame out. If he is working on things in the minors, that could certainly be the cause of a couple poor outings. It's also possible that it will just take a little more time and experience coming back from the injury to really have it click for him in the starting rotation. He has earned a few starts in the majors, and he should get that chance. If he doesn't do well and the Cubs do replace him in the majors though (I don't know with who) then I hope they send him to the bullpen, because even if he's not effective starting I think he can still be a very effective reliever. Hopefully, he does well and the Cubs never have to make that decision.

It may just take him a few trips up and down before things click with him as a major league starter. That was the case with Hill.

difference is, hill was dominating aaa batters... the same can hardly be said for guzman.

Yep, Hill absolutely dominated AAA competition in pretty much every one of his starts last year.

I've said it before, but Guzman (in my mind) is going to eventually be more valuable as a reliever. But right now, we do need him as the 5th starter in the worst way possible, so seeing him struggle against AAA players is definitely concerning.

Des Moines Register[/url]"]Guzman knows how to fix his mistakes

If anything, Tuesday's dismal pitching performance by Angel Guzman may end up being a blessing.

"We talked after the game, and we talked again (Wednesday) morning," Iowa manager Buddy Bailey said. "What I heard from him was that he knows what he did wrong, and the simple fact that he knows shows me that he won't do it again."

Guzman, mentioned before Tuesday as a potential Chicago Cubs starting pitcher on Sunday, allowed seven runs on four hits in three innings against Nashville.

His ERA in three Iowa starts is 12.19. His record is 0-2.

"He got out of being Angel Guzman," Bailey said. "He wanted to work on some other pitches and got away from being himself, which is a power-type pitcher with a power sinker.

"He got to throwing too many breaking balls in counts he couldn't afford to, and it snowballed from there.

"The good thing is that he realizes it. The next time we'll see Angel Guzman pitch, we'll see him on the attack. That's what's going to make him successful in the big leagues."

On Sunday?

"We might have to revisit this thing,'' manager Lou Piniella told reporters after learning of Guzman's bad game. "We could wait a little longer. We've got that option.''
