Seriously, he has been nothing short of garbage. DFA him and call up Cherry or Rapada.
Um, where have you been today? Cherry is already up. He was called up today with Miller going on the DL.

Eyre does have to go, however, and immediately. He must not be allowed to pitch again with the Cubs leading or in striking distance; using him is effectively forfeiting the game.

D'oh, I knew that. I blanked out on that in my fit of rage after Eyre blew the lead.

As mad as we all are at how this team has played, if it weren't for Eyre, they would have 3 more wins! I think people would feel reasonably positive about a team that is 10-9 rather than 7-12. Somone correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't he blown leads in 3 games already (giving up multiple runs in each)?? This one, the first one in Atlanta and another one on the previous homestand?

(It is possible that one of them I am thinking of was Ohman, but I'm pretty sure Eyre has blown 3)

It would be silly to get rid of him now, but we better change his use until he proves he can be semi-effective.

Use Cotts as the number 1 lefty, Ohman only verse lefties, and Eyre when his potential crap performance cant cost the game.

Eyre has about $7M left on his contract. The org will not just eat that without trying to salvage something from it, and rightly so. I say let him pitch some unclose games and hopes he get back to form, then maybe he could be traded. Lefties are always overvalued and can always be moved. Unfortunately dorks like Hendry are the reason for that, so Eyre will probably stay in Chicago if he starts pitching better.

Get his confidence back, but don't pitch him any games that mean anything...Please.

How about we have Scott have some of those "back spasms" that Miller got, and DL him? Let him spend some time trying to get his head straight, then send him to Iowa on a rehab assignment. Maybe he bounces back enough to sucker someone into a trade.

I agree with how to use Eyre in non critical situations. But in defense of Lou, he's really had no choice in many of these situations. Since Ohman couldn't get anyone out last week and they've had so many long games with lots of bullpen use AND they have gone with 11 pitchers.

I'm still chuckling over hearing Jim Hendry say we have the best bullpen in the division during Cubs Convention.

Most expensive bullpen, not best. Hendry thinks a big price tag equals quality.

Yup, by ERA the team bullpen is 3rd out of 6th in the division, 7th out of 16 in the NL, and 13th out of 30 in the league. So it has been very average so far.

If Howry can pitch like he did last night and Ohman continue to be used against left-handers like he was last night, I think the Cubs can bump those league rankings up more. The only question then is what to do with Eyre-I'd like to see him get those mop-up innings that Ohman was getting for a couple of weeks.

I think Eyre can be pretty effective once he finds it, but right now he shouldn't be given any serious work until he does.

I also think the bullpen will look better when they don't have to go for so long of a stretch in these ballgames. That's 3 extra inning games in a week, and if the Cubs don't have to use their bullpen as much in close games then their effective relievers right now don't have to be unavailable for half the games because they had to pitch multiple innings the previous day.

I dont post on here much at all but this one caught my eye. Scott Eyre has got to go. he's a lefty pitcher who cant get lefty hitters out. Plus he's a jerk. (met him at the meet the team, have a ball event last year at wrigley and he was a pompous ass who said told me and a few other fans that he hated "these types of events").

Trade him, send him to the minors do something. why wasnt Cotts brought in during that situation?
