All of this is VERY hypothetical. I am going to lay the groundwork, and then at the very bottom, list the proposed trade:

Rich Hill has been a BEAST in the early going's this season, looking like the ace of the staff. Lilly has looked extremely good, and like Hill, isn't walking a ton of batters. Marquis has looked better then expected, and Guzman, in his bullpen sessions has looked marvelous as well. Now, he was sent down to stretch out his arm, to possibly gain a starters roll later in the season, (like early May!). Say all 4 of the listed pitchers above, pitch at where they are now, or even slightly worse (Hill and Lilly). Also say Zambrano turns things around, and pitches like the Zambrano we all know and love. Would you consider the following trade?

We all know the Yankees pitching staff is old, and very injury prone. Mussina, Wang, and Pavano are all on the disabled list right now. Zambrano is about to get a ton of money, and has a ton of mileage on his arm. The Yankees don't care though. They need pitching, as their offense is very good.

Would you consider trading Zambrano and DeRosa for ARod + cash?

Cubs projected lineup would look like:

1. Theriot (2B)

2. DLee (1B)

3. ARam (3B)

4. ARod (SS)

5. Soriano (RF)

6. Barrett ©

7. Murton (LF)

8. Pie (CF)

Rotation:

1. Hill

2. Lilly

3. Marquis

4. Guzman

5. Miller

As much as the Yankees need pitching, I can't imagine where they would be without ARod's hitting right now. Personally, I don't think ARod is going anywhere.

Completely agree, there going to hold on to him like theres no tommorow. Maybe when pitching comes back they would possibly think about it.

While I would love to have A-Rod, I'm thinking the better deal would be Santana and Wood. Wood is going to come very close to the production of A-Rod in the next year or two, and Santana is on his way to becoming an ace.

Aramis, Wood, Patterson and Lee will be one of the best infields in baseball. An outfield of Soriano, Pie and Murton and eventually Colvin will make this team very exciting to watch.

I just don't see LAA trading for Zambrano. He has no contract beyond this year and they'd be giving up the best prospect in baseball and a pitcher who could end up being as good or better than Zambrano, and a guy who they control for a few more years at a minimal cost compared to Zambrano.

And if Zambrano doesn't get things straightened out soon, nobody will want him.

I think you may be overvaluing Wood. Very close to ARod's production and "the best" prospect? He's good, but I don't think he's quite that good.

You do know Wood doesn't play short anymore, right?

You do know that they moved him to 3b because he's blocked at SS by Cabrera, right?

Yeah, but wouldn't he also be blocked here by the glove that hits .400?

When Cameron Maybin has a 101 XBH season at age 20 in 134 games, I'll give Maybin the nod over Brandon Wood.

Wood had 71 XBH's last year in 118 games in a bit of an off year at the plate.

I agree, but seeing him in person a few times last year I fear that it wasn't so much an off year as the talent level caught up with him. He had guys that were crap pitchers blowing it by him. I went for one series and he didn't put a single good swing on any ball. I know it was one series, but still I question his ability to make enough contact at the highest level. Especially when compared with elite prospects. Now compared to our systems guys, heck yeah I would take him as our short in a heartbeat.

Edit: I also have a huge man love thing for Maybin. I hope he becomes what CPATT was supposed to.

He does K a lot. I haven't seen him in person, but I'd take a guy at SS with his ability all day long. Especially considering the mess we currently have at SS.

I'd do that in a second if Hill is still dominating in July. But how does Derosa fit in?

It gives the Yankees someone to throw out at 3B.

And the Yankees would be just fine without A-Rod's bat. They've still got Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Giambi, Posada, they won't be hurting for offense at all.

Yeah that is for sure. I really don't get Anaheim. I don't think they have a game plan at all. They never gave McPherson, Kotchman, Morales, or Mathis 500 abs to see what they can/can't do. Yet they have no problem playing crap like Rob Quinlan, Darin Erstad, and to a lesser extent Chone Figgins everyday. Personally I would have kept Wood at SS. I mean McPherson was good enough they let a 25 year old Troy Glaus walk and then never gave him a shot. Why are any of us to believe they will ever give Wood a fair chance? Sorry for the rant.

And Tabata on the way.

That Cabrera signing was horrible. Cabrera blocks Wood and Aybar. You could probably move either one of them or both to a different position, but why not just use Figgins at SS until one of these guys was ready?

Another position you could put Aybar is in CF. With GMJ there for the next 5 years, what becomes of Aybar?

Anaheim's gameplan hasn't been very good. I will agree with you on that.

No it hasn't, but I would kill to have their scouting director. They are just loaded in the minors every year.
