Abuck won the last 2 championships in this league AND predicted Rich Hill would be a huge success.

Wow! Too bad he's modest and doesn't brag about both every single chance he gets.

Amazing how much better a team looks when it gets quality starting pitching. If Zambrano can get his act together, the Cubs could have a good team.

bump.

i think the question now is...rich hill -- better than koufax and carlton or just carlton. debate.

I think we'll wait out the season before we begin that debate. What's his BABIP?

doubtful. They still produce far too few baserunners and make tons of silly mistakes, walk too many batters, and generally don't look too good. I do like Hill a lot though despite the above post.

I would disagree. I think if the Cubs realize that Theriot and Derosa is the best 2b/SS combo, Zambrano gets on track, and we get any production from Prior/Wood, then we will be pretty good. Perfect, no..., but can we win our division, definitely yes.

Yeah, I can't believe the slow start is a sign of things to come. This team will get it going. I can't explain the hot Aramis start, but I think a lot of the dominican/latin american players typically get off to slow starts in the cooler weather.

This team as assembled is a division winning team. I think they just need to run off a string of wins to build a little extra confidence in themselves.

They need to play better. Do you really believe Marquis and Lilly will be this good once the wind starts blowing out? Hill is not going to have a sub 1 ERA all year. You are requiring Wood and Prior? While I think the offense will get better, they are always going to struggle to score due to low obp at the top of the order.

I do believe that Marquis and Lilly will be better than feared. Anything from Prior, or Wood, would be icing on the cake. What I need to see though is for Howrey and Eyre to return to form.

there is only trustiworthy arm in the bullpen.

While I think the effects are overstated, I do believe this Cubs team is doomed by poor fundamentals, defense, and baserunning. coupled with a mediocre bullpen, they are going to lose a lot of close games. I really can't see them ending up over .500 unless things drastically improve.
