I went to the Tenn. Smokies Game tonight and Jake Fox had a monster game. He hit 2 doubles and 2 Homeruns for a total of 5 RBI's. Justin Berg pitched and did not look good, he gave up 4 runs in the first. It was a good game it was also cold for Jacksonville FL only about 40-50 degrees out.

SmokiesBaseball.com"]Jacksonville, Fla. – Tennessee Smokies catcher Jake Fox went four-for-five at the plate with two doubles, two homeruns and five RBI as he led the Chicago Cubs affiliate to a 10-6 victory over the Jacksonville Suns in a back-and-forth affair Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds.

The win moved Tennessee to 2-1 on the early season while the loss dropped Jacksonville to 1-2.

Jake Fox opened his tremendous night with a first inning double and later scored on a Chin-Lung Hu throwing error to make it a 1-0 Smokies lead.

That lead would be short-lived as the Suns offense took advantage of Tennessee starter Justin Berg’s mistakes in the bottom of the first. Berg walked four, hit a batter and threw two wild pitches as the Suns scored four runs on two hits to open a 4-1 lead.

Tennessee chipped away at the Suns advantage with a second inning sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 4-2. In the third, Jake Fox struck again with an RBI double that made it a 4-3 game. Josh Kroeger followed it with an RBI single that tied the game at four.

The Suns offense struck back in the third inning as John Lindsey and Alberto Concepcion both hit solo homeruns to open a 6-4 Jacksonville lead.

After Tennessee’s Gary Cates laid down an RBI bunt single in the fifth inning that cut the Suns lead to 6-5, Jacksonville starter Eric Cyr left the game in favor of 2006 Southern League All-Star B.J. LaMura. The Suns right-hander walked the first batter he faced in the sixth inning and put the next two men out to face Jake Fox. Fox unleashed an opposite field, two-run homerun into the right field bleachers off of Suns reliever B.J. LaMura to give Tennessee a 7-6 advantage. Fox later padded what was then an 8-6 lead after Spearman’s RBI hit with another opposite field, two-run homerun that ended the scoring at 10-6.

Paul Schappert picked up the relief victory for Tennessee while B.J. LaMura fell in the loss for the Suns. Carmen Pignatiello saved his first game of the season.

The Suns and Smokies meet in game four of the series on Easter Sunday at 3:05 p.m. Suns RH Alvis Ojeda will face Smokies RH Kevin Hart.

DaytonaCubs.com"]Opening night at the Jack was one for the record books. There were skydivers, Clowns, Mascots, fireworks, and oh yeah… baseball. The Daytona Cubs had a sell out crowd with 4,693 in attendance as they battled the Brevard County Manatees for the I-95 series. The Daytona Cubs took the Manatees 12-4.

Down by two in the fifth, the Cubs rallied back when a series of errors by Brevard caused Chris Amador and Nate Spears to score, making it a whole new ballgame at 4 runs apiece.

Two more runs were added in the sixth, but the hit show really began in the eighth. Nate Spears lead off the inning with a double. Robinson Chirinos, Matt Matulia, and Chris Amador all reached with singles. Jake Muyco added to the entertainment with a double that drove in three runs. The Cubs twelve runs came on sixteen hits and three errors.

The Manatees had their fair share of hits to add. However, the Cubs defense held the Manatees to only four runs on their ten hits.

A memorable game thanks to the home fans, and the fireworks display was the perfect ending to an electric night.

Daytona News-Journal"]One night after struggling at the plate -- striking out 14 times -- in a 3-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers affiliate, Daytona's lineup pounded out 16 hits and whiffed only four times. Daytona's batters also drew four walks.

"That's what we preach -- try to have the same number of walks as strikeouts," Daytona manager Jody Davis said. "Our forte has to be putting the ball in play. We didn't do that (Friday) night. We had 14 strikeouts. Tonight we had four."

...

OF NOTE: Daytona outfielder Tyler Colvin, the Cubs' first-round draft selection last year, sat out for the second straight game because of a jammed middle finger in his left hand. Colvin jammed his finger sliding into a base Thursday night in Daytona's season-opening victory over Brevard County. He had two hits and scored a run in his Daytona debut. He is expected back in the lineup Monday night.

Good, not a serious injury for Colvin.

Reason #67 why I hate the headfirst slide.
