hmm...will carroll was talking about how he almost hopes that yocum cuts him open.

if that happens, and prior misses the season, he doesn't accrue any major league service time (if i'm understanding the rules, correctly), so he would become a free agent one year later. here's hoping yocum can figure out what's wrong (and fix it so he can pitch in 2008).

Are we resorting to dissecting him to figure out what's wrong?

or perhaps surgeons have found things wrong with guys that don't show up on MRIs? yeah. fwiw, i'm not championing this approach - it's just something that was mentioned and worth discussion.

This is what was on cubs.com today:
Wood-Prior report: While Kerry Wood was diagnosed with tendinitis in his nettlesome right shoulder, Mark Prior is still trying to decipher what is causing his shoulder problems. Prior was examined by orthopedic specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Friday and Yocum will share the test results with noted surgeon Dr. James Andrews. The dream team of surgeons has worked together before on Prior.
Basically, the only thing that may be new is that Dr. Yocum is going to consult with Dr. Andrews.

The only news I ever want to be bothered with about Mark Prior is when he is starting for the Chicago Cubs. Otherwise, I don't really care.

I'd love to see their houses. Those guys are raking in the big bucks.

You know it's sad when I knew who Dr. Andrews was even before I read this.

Dr. Andrews is as much a household name now as Dr. Jobe was 10 or 20 years ago. I think baseball fans who don't even know who their own team's doctor is know who Dr. Andrews is.

Had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Andrews a few times, and he is a hell of a nice guy, and a great orthopedist.

Yokum will compare notes with Andrews on his physical exam and probably compare MRI's to see if there is any significant change. I would bet nothing much of any significance is going to come out of this except - he has some irriation in his shoulder.

Okay, then I suggest not reading this thread anymore because there will continue to be lots of discussion about him.

endless rehashing of all the same points over and over again...if ya keep reading this thread best ya can hope for is that all the same arguements come in different orders each time for a little variety #-o

Variety is the spice of life. Or something.

THT has a really interesting breakdown of how Prior's mechanics have changed. Link

Wow, thanks for posting. You can certainly tell a difference, my question is IF (not saying whether it is or isn't) that is the problem, how in the hell has no one working for the cubs noticed it?

Yeah, thanks. Great video analysis. slowing things down really shows the difference.

I particularly like the follow through illustration. There's just no question part of Mark's problem is he's lost his agressive approach. This shows it beautifully. I think Rothschild and Mark ought to have a look at this. It's a nice analysis, worthy of some additional attention.
