my bad. he was the last pitcher listed and i thought the game was over so i didnt bother to count the innings.

eric bynres was quoted as saying, iirc, the first two pitches hawkins threw to him were sliders that byrnes said not even babe ruth could hit. and then, latroy decided to throw a 1-2 fastball right down the pipes, which byrnes hit for a two run single.

 

1-2 fastballs are a surefire way to stay in the big leagues... haha

listen to what many of the local sportswriters thought of hawkins when he was with the cubs. from what i've heard them say about him, they had the same opinon of him that we did.
