He would have tried to suck the stitching off the ball?

If Molina had gotten a hit there, would that make LaRussa smarter than us?

of course not. how could a future hall of fame manager know more about baseball than a couple of guys on a message board?

"Our discussions have progressed to a point where we are extending the deadline for an indefinite period of time," Zambrano's agent, Barry Praver, said Sunday.

Excellent news, lets hope Zambrano goes and strikes out 27 Reds tomorrow to prove that he's worth every penny of it.

You do realize LaRussa pioneered the idea of the 9th inning closer, which both common sense and statistics show is a horrible idea?

He's not as smart as he's cracked up to be.

Am I the only one who tires of hearing Jon Miller call anyone who hits more than 15 homers a year a "slugger"?

I sincerely doubt it.

My friend, who is a very knowledgeable baseball fan, says that David Wright is the most overrated player in the NL.

IMO he really isn't. His game is very technically sound...even ARod is taking parts of his game. If hitting .300 every year with around 30 homers and 100+ RBI is over-rated, I'll gladly take him off of the Mets' hands.

I'm sure he would have spiraled out of control if he ever pitched the 7th or 8th.

It's not that players can't perform in that role, it's that the concept pays no attention to leverage.

Honestly, would you rather have your best reliever come into a tie game in the 7th with the bases juiced and no outs, or sit on the bench and wait until you might have a lead in the 9th?

Eck was not as valuable as his performance dictated he could have been. LaRussa shouldn't be praised for not knowing how to deploy his resources in the most beneficial manner.

He loves to overhype just about everything.

Oh I don't think he's overrated at all. I think my friend is out of his mind with that statement but I don't argue about it with him anymore, he's believed it for awhile.

Let me guess, your friend is a Cards fan who thinks that Rolen is the best 3B in the game?
