That's right ladies and gentlemen; minor league baseball returns in a week! I know this is early and everything, but I'm so pumped for baseball's return that I couldn't wait. :D

I would like to take the time to bid a farewell while at the same time welcoming a new member of the Cubs' affiliates. To everyone from the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx who have been so awesome to us, thank you so much for everything you have done for us these past years. Specifically, Ron Potesta and Chris, you two have done way more for this website than almost anyone can claim. Without you two, NSBB would not have become the website it is today. We will be forever grateful for what you have done with us. Hopefully, we can continue having a good relationship with West Tenn in the coming years. :D

At that same time, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome everyone with the Tennessee Smokies organization into the NSBB family. We look forward to a fruitful relationship over the coming years and wish all of you nothing but the best!

Join us for another rousing year of Cubs minor league baseball! Here's hoping for health, success, and a bit of luck for all Cubs affiliates this upcoming season!

It still has not sunk in that when I go to the Diamond Jaxx games this year that I will not be seeing the players that I know so well. Listening to the spring training games I realize that it will only be a matter of time before these players become major league players. To follow these players thru the minor leagues creates a bond that I will always cherish. Even thought this is Cardinal territory, the first thing I do is look at the Cubs box score to see what my 'friends' are doing. I realize now that the only way that one can truely be a fan is to know the players as they progress thru the minor league system. I have been fortunate enough to do that with the Cubs. I definitely will be looking forward to seeing the Smokies when they come into town.

On the positive side, I will get to learn a whole group of new players from the Seattle Mariners organization and still get to listen to one of the best radio broadcasters in the business in Ron Potesta.

I have missed these threads.

Wow, Outshined, thanks so much. Like Cubway mentioned, the reality of the situation still hasn't set in with me. The other day I was talking about the season and said _______________ is going to look great in a Diamond Jaxx uniform this season.

I have to say that I am very happy that Ron is going to continue being the "Voice of the Diamond Jaxx". My wife and I have so much respect and appreciation for him, both on and away from the booth. As tough as losing the affiliation contract was, not having Ron at the park would have been really awkward. Even with a new affiliate, I still plan to spend a ton of time at the big chip this season, even when the Smokies are not the visiting team. Pringles Park is a very special place to my family.

Hopefully we'll still see a lot of Ron on the site this year. In addition, I hope that we see Mick around a lot as well. With their help, hopefully we can continue to bring Q & A sessions from the AA level in '07.

Thanks again!

I know that feeling. I just enjoy going to minor league games, so I go sometimes even when a Cubs affiliate isn't playing. I live close enough to watch games at Carolina (AA Southern League) and Durham (AAA International League).

For what it's worth I've considered going to some additional games as well after doing some additional research on Cal Ripken, Jr. His rookie ball team (Bluefield Orioles) is celebrating their 50th year of affiliation with Baltimore this season. The town is having a big celebration of the team history and I'd love to go see a game. In addition, I'm learning that Cal was pretty familiar with Tennessee over his minor league career and I'd enjoy going to see some of the places he visited.

AA, with Smokies playing in Jaxx family will be able to take advantage and be in the cheering section for the series. The roster is set but can't comment until posted officially......

The Cubs once had their rookie league team in the same league as Bluefield (first in Wytheville, ViA, later in Huntington, WV) before changing to the Arizona League. I lived in Huntington for three years while the Cubs were there. That was before I got into minor league baseball that much, so I didn't go to see them play very often.

On the subject of Ripken, someone allowed me to post some old video of Cal from the 1981 season in Rochester on my website. Pretty neat video:

I'd like to see Marshall at Iowa, but otherwise it looks good. Too bad Veal can't get an Opening Day nod.

I expect it will be Marshall or Walrond. Maybe Marmol if he isn't in the pen. Definitely don't think it will be Randy Wells.

hurry up games, I like to come here after the big Cubs disappoint me.

Don't worry, the little Cubs will raise your hopes up and crush them just as well. ;)

That is just how I would have preferred to see the season start out, but I will most likely only be 2/4 as Wells will not be starting opening day for Iowa either.
