Why isn't Prior starting for Iowa? He was optioned to Iowa, after all.

This got lost in the Prior thread in baseball discussions, but he's apparently officially now on the minor league 7-day DL because he's still in AZ.

That explains why I didn't see it. I avoided that thread like the plague after it became a question of his manhood.

heh anyone who questions his manhood forgets who carried the cubs into the 2003 playoffs.

What does Sammy Sosa have to do with a minor league thread? :)

All stats are from the 2006 season.

You had Samardzija there earlier! Atkins is getting thursday, Jeff on Friday.

Class A Daytona and manager Jody Davis open Thursday at Brevard County. No. 1 draft pick Tyler Colvin is on Davis' roster. Mitch Atkins will start the opener and Jeff Samardzija, the former Notre Dame wide receiver and current Cubs pitcher, is expected to make his first start on Friday.

The Manatees made arrangements to serve Fish & Chips for the Good Friday game since Samardzija is pitching.

All you Notre Dame fans can have a special Good Friday this year. Former ND standout Wide Receiver Jeff Samardzija is the projected starter for this Friday's Manatees-Daytona Cubs game. No April Fool's joke here. Last season he was with the Chicago Cubs Short-Season and Low-A affiliates; this year he begins with the Daytona Cubs

We've made a deal: I just got off the phone with Jeremy Zimmerman, the head guru in charge of the stadium's concessions. Jeremy says he'll serve fried fish out of the concession stands for Good Friday for Manatees fans. Jeremy says he'll serve fish and chips because he knows Samardzija will serve up a heapin' helpin' of some hanging curveballs for the 'Tees. Father Bob and all the rest of the Notre Dame Club, you can conduct your services inside the stadium, then stick around for the game. We have baseball chapel services here at the stadium all the time, and we've had a host of post-game Christian Concerts in the past couple years, so we'll offer it up to those that need to adjust their schedules, attend services, get some fish and chips and watch baseball.

That's who I thought it'd be. I saw confirmation from a few places that Jeff was going on Friday instead but nothing about who would pitch tomorrow.

Thanks.

Hopefully the only heapin' helpin' the Manatees will get is of the K variety. I wouldn't mind if they hung a few for us though.

Smokies' preview focuses on Gallagher.

Tennessee manager Pat Listach is sold on Gallagher.

"He's won everywhere he has been," Listach said.

PJStar.com[/url]"]The Opening Day starter is traditionally a team's best pitcher. So that's why Peoria Chiefs righthander Billy Muldowney was a little bit in awe this week.

Muldowney, the Chicago Cubs eighth-round pick out of the University of Pittsburgh, will start tonight's scheduled season-opener with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

"It's such an honor. We've got five No. 1 guys in that pen right there," Muldowney said. "Just that the ball happened to fall my way has been an honor with the staff we've got."

"I think he's the anchor (of Peoria's rotation)," Cubs director of player development Oneri Fleita said. "He's a bulldog and he throws strikes."

By the way, you can send in-broadcast e-mails to Mick during Smokies game. You can see the link to e-mail here at the Smokies web site, right underneath the line score for today's game (and right next to the audio broadcast link).

I would shocked if they got this game in, Beloit has already been cancelled.

Appleton, WI- Despite an expected first pitch temperature below 30 degrees, the Peoria Chiefs and Manager Ryne Sandberg are ready to get the 2007 season going tonight in Appleton, WI.

Other games in the MWL have been cancelled on opening day but the Chiefs and Timber Rattlers expect to get going at 6:35 PM this evening.

It's going to be weird not rooting for the DJaxx this year. Also, I've got some serious man-love for Veal. I can't wait to see him in Chicago.

I'm still working on not saying "Jaxx" when referring to Cubs AA.

Here's another excerpt from the issue:
