I think Miller could be just fine as the #5 guy, keeping the ball down in the zone and hitting the corners pretty well so far today.

It's one inning. He has yet to have a really good outing.

I hear ya, but who else are you going to throw out there? Miller hasn't been terrible either.

Agreed, but I think given that he hasn't been horrible plus his games at the end of this last year he'd be a better option over Marquis, especially with how cheap he is.

Len said they're skipping the fifth starter - wah?

Lou said they'd build the rotation around Z, who would pitch every 5th day. He also said that they'd be flipping starts to avoid having starter #4 (Rich Hill) pitch back-to-back starts vs St. Louis. They won't be skipping #5 altogether:

Whoever the fifth starter is will get four starts in the first 30 days of the season.

Not really skipping but staying on Zambrano's rest days. Every starter (1-4) will get 6 starts in April with the 5th starter having 4.

If there are no rainouts or changes, Zambrano would get six starts in April, as will Ted Lilly, Jason Marquis and Rich Hill. Whoever the fifth starter is will get four starts in the first 30 days of the season.

"We're going to pitch around Zambrano," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said, pulling a Gatorade-stained sheet of paper from his office garbage can that outlined his notes on the rotation through the May 1 game at Pittsburgh.

"The only concern," Piniella said, "is our fourth starter gets back-to-back starts against St. Louis, which we don't like, and we may do something about that."

I understand. I'm just upset because Prior isn't ready. We're settling for Miller.
