Some site called the Daily Herald has a little story up now that says Soriano apparently nailed down the CF job. That pretty much means Pie, today's starter, wil go to Iowa to begin the season. Also a tidbit on Prior. I'd post a link, but I'm not too computer savvy. I write 'em and send 'em into the paper. :D

Let's face it, an OF of Soriano, Murton and Jones gives us a better chance of winning than Soriano, Pie, Murton does. I have no problem with keeping Jones here. The only thing needed is a platoon partner for him against lefties and we're set. I think having DeRosa start against lefties in the OF and move Theriot to 2B would be a good move.

Jones started out terribly but finished with decent stats last year. He needs to take a few more walks and cut down the K's but his production is fine for this team.

I know its the total pessimist in me, but when I see Prior's game got moved back a day, I think "cover up". I know its because he threw on the side, but I can't help it. I hope one day I don't feel like the cubs are constantly lying.

Bruce do have a feel for the mental status of Prior? He started out throwing 84/85. In his next start he was 88/89 with the fastball but he looked like he was overthrowing and not hitting his spots. His breaking stuff was consistently away and he seemed tentative to lefties as a result. He looks like he's fallen apart mentally to me.

By the way, great job as the beat writer for the Daily Herald.

It's not great at this point, but "fallen apart" is too strong. He's got to straighten things out mechanically, and that process has him a bit frustrated.

Really?

PECOTA projects Pie to be worth 2 wins more than Jones this year.

Bruce, did you forget to add in your blurb that Rothschild fixed Prior's mechanics and that Mark was throwing 94-96 with perfect mechanics? :D

Miller's having a good outing-after that leadoff HR, he's allowed 3 hits, struck out 4, walked none, and picked off one of the runners he let on in 3 innings.

I don't know about fine. If the Cubs want to be great (and they should) then production like they get from Jones isn't good enough. Jones' expected production range varies from bad to okay. Personally I'm not fine with okay from 30-something veterans, especially not corner guys. Jones has to be at the absolute top of his game to be an asset to this team this year.

Does Pecota add a platoon partner for Jones? Probably not..

PECOTA projections are atrocious when it comes to rookies.

Example please?

It pegged Ryan Howard to hit almost 60 HR last year, and I thought it was crazy, but he did it.

Has Lou stated that he'll platoon Jacque? I haven't seen anything to that effect.

If Derosa and Jones were platooning in RF, that would be great, but Derosa is going to be the fulltime 2B this year, isn't he? And if Jacque needs a platoon partner, so does Mark.
