So is the general consensus here the Pie would benefit more from getting regular AB's in AAA rather than scarcely distributed AB's at the ML level, hoping that Jones either gets traded or breaks his whatever bone?

Pretty much.

I wish Jacque well because it helps the team as a whole. The issue with Pie is separate from Jones yet interrelated. Felix still needs to work on his plate discipline. He will be benefited by the at-bats in AAA. The advantage in trading Jones is the defense improves with Pie in CF and Soriano in RF (not to mention we might get a serviceable player in return).

Yeah, but the Orioles also have a crazy owner who won't seem to ok a trade of Tejada for anything even when people offer him great deals.

Would Izturis (last year of contract), Cedeno (or Theriot), Jacque (to get rid of some salary), Guzman, and get it done for Tejada?

No, I don't think that would get very close-the Orioles want major league talent in return, and plenty of it-that's why people even desperate to get him have gone away empty-handed.

No, that's no my feelings. Jones WILL be more productive this year than Pie will be. I'm certainly not going to hope Jones gets injured just so Pie can be called up sooner.

If the Cubs are going to make a run at the playoffs, they have a better chance of that happening with Jones in the outfield. Jones only gets traded at the deadline if the Cubs are out of it or we can get something in return that would offset the decrease in production from Pie to Jones.

For example, if Jones and some prospects would net Tejada (I know, bad example), the production from Tejada at SS would offset the loss of production from Pie replacing Jones.

Thats an awful trade. You're giving up 2 middling level middle infielders, a mediocre outfielder, a middling pitching prospect and another pitching prospect for a bona-fide star?

What? How did that make sense in your head?

First, a pitching prospect who throws 95 mph with command and nasty breaking pitches like Gooz is more than just "middling."

Second, bona-fide stars get traded for crap packages around a couple of prospects all the time. They're called salary dumps. Now, whether or not Baltimore would do such a deal is definitely in question, but the point stands.

I'd rather not see Pie at all this season until and unless we get a significant offensive upgrade at SS. Pie doesn't have great plate discipline, and that means he's likely to face some serious difficulties as a hitter for probably a season or more when he comes up. Jones is a virtual lock to outproduce a rookie Pie in OBP, OPS, and SLG. The only area Pie has an advantage is defense, and we've discussed ad nauseum how unsatisfied we are with all glove no hit Izturis. Now, Pie, unlike Izturis, will probably get better, but this season the declared goal is win now, and Jones is going to be a better fit for that goal in this season.

Now, if the Cubs need to deal Jones and use Pie in order to get Tejada/ARod, then you can live with Pie being subpar offensively.
