Why is it an earned run when there were 2 outs and an error?

He gave up a homer with the bases juiced

Izzy with another hit

That's my understanding, please correct me if I'm wrong.

As CubColt(eww)Pacer pointed out, the MLB.com box doesn't have an Izturis error, so they have all 4 runs as earned.

so if the inning would have continued and more runs scored, would they be considered earned, as well?

After the HR, because the HR is on Woody.

You are correct, the boxscore is wrong.

I always go under the assumption that I am right. 8-)

Am I reading something wrong. Wood has 4 runs on 1 hit, one error and no BB?

HBP, BB, E6, HR/2out = 4R/1ER

Did they change the rules of scoring? When I was a kid, all these runs would have been unearned because without the error the inning would have been over. I'm not saying it makes sense, but that's the way it was.

Haha, anyone have a clue? I always worked under the assumption the HR and everything after it is earned.

Pie AB, Iz on 2nd, 2 outs:

Pitch 1: Strike

Pitch 2: Foul

Pitch 3: Ball

Pitch 4: 4 - 3

CUT HIM!

Yeah, Pierre could have done the same thing but in fewer pitches.

Ok, I assumed once there were two outs and there was an error all runs scored in that inning from that point were unearned. Thanks.

I think the baserunner is unearned, but the hitter is earned regardless of the timing of the error.

Don't forget a fake bunt in there too.

Woodchip is right. Any runs scored after there are two outs and there has been an error (where the guy didn't later get out) should be unearned.

Kinney felt "tingling" in his elbow...needs ligament replacement surgery.

Poor kid. Never want to see anyone get hurt, even Cardinals. I hope he can come back.
