On the relay, McGehee made a snap throw to Patterson that got away. The broadcasters seemed to think the error would be on McGehee, but the scorer may have thought otherwise.

Looks like you're right on the scorer. In the box, it says "missed catch" for the error, so it seems obvious that they charged the error to Eric.
