A telling stat?

Cubs have 2 runs on 5 hits

meanwhile, the

Sox have 6 runs on 5 hits

I know it's early in ST, but I don't like that we are leaving too many runners in scoring position. It's bringing back bad flashbacks of us not being able to manufacture runs when it counts.

On the positive...

We're gonna love seeing Soriano in this lineup, great to see D-Lee hit one out even though he got jammed a bit and I thought Hill looked solid.

From viewing the replay (although the replay is not the best) I think we got a favorable call there. The ball beat him there, but I think he beat the tag.

It's spring training for the umps too.

Oh never mind, umps suck.

We're hitting fine, other than Ramirez sucking it up. Mateo gave example 1A why you don't walk people against a slugging team.

Hill gave up a solo shot on a bad pitch. That happens. Just don't make your mistakes 3R mistakes like Mateo did.

It's more bad pitching than poor offense, IMO.

No, I think they should have brought in Webb right after Mateo's first inning.

Mateo's name hasn't come up at all among those being considered. Plus, his lack of control is an issue. If a MiL guy makes the squad he'll be well ahead of everyone else. Lou mentioned that Cherry was mature in age and ability and that he looked good... I think his age has something to do with the consideration because Lou mentioned he's 27.

Who sees the mound in the first week of Cactus League games has little to do with who is making the roster. Teams barely have enough arms with them to make it through all the games as it is.

And Cherry has no chance at all of making the team.

Lou said he had a chance of making the team.

Still, it's pretty unlikely that Cherry will make the team unless there are some injuries in the pen.

But either way, Mateo needs to get stretched out - he will be starting at Iowa. AAA guys generally get stretched out with the big league team, especially this early in spring training.
