I like Lou.

It's tough not to as he's saying all the right things but it is the honeymoon period!

Hey...even just saying the right things is an improvement over the past.

You got that right. I'm trying for the life of me to remember the things Dusty said in his first spring for the Cubs. Maybe I just blocked them out for my own sanity.

Lou did seem a little fiesty with the press about Soriano didn't he? I had a feeling the press would look for flaws in CF and jump on the tiniest of details.

Thanks for putting the article here, I mistakenly put the reference in today' Game Thread meant to put in yesterday'.

Thanks for posting it. I really enjoyed reading it and I like the way Lou approaches the pre-season games.

Just the very fact that Lou will quit probably never refer someone as "Dude" is all the more reason to look forward to 2007.

We spent an awful amount of time trying to put a positive spin on Dusty's quotes in the media his first two years, didn't we?

I think this is an interesting article. I would like to see Soriano call off Jones in those instances but it is just the beginning.

I'm really happy the way Lou goes about preseason games. Keep getting better and learn from your mistakes.

Did anyone else grimace at the last quote in that article, where he says they got the bases loaded, and they had the right guy (Ward) at the plate?

Well, that is what he is supposed to do-come in during the late innings and be the main pinch-hitter in a key situation.

Yep. I don't see anything wrong with Lou's quote. He had his left-handed pinch hitter who had over a 1.000 OPS against righties last year up with the bases loaded late in the game. Sounds like it would normally be a pretty good situation to me.

I agree. Now Jehr...if Lou said the Cubs need better clutch hitting that could spark more of a oh no not again reponse from me.

I didn't really articulate what it was that made me grimace. Call it a natural reflex. That quote gave me a flashback to the day when Dusty would do a double switch to ensure he was sticking with the lefty-righty matchup. Not that Lou is Dusty or Ward was here before, I just hated last year whenever Dusty would pull his famous double switches so the lefty with the .220 average against righties can pinch hit over the righty with a .260 average against righties. And I'm only talking averages because Dusty didn't want pinch hitters who would go up there and clog bases.
