Maddux cost $9 million last year. Marquis only costs $4.5 million this year. I'm sure that Hendry wants to build up trade value and trade Marquis before the big money is due. That's what the Marlins did with Carlos Delgado.

This offseason makes the Maddux trade look much worse for both teams. The Dodgers went and signed a bunch of free agent OFs. I would have given up Maddux for Andre Ethier, James Loney, Matt Kemp or Joel Guzman. Instead we got a light hitting SS coming off Tommy John surgery. That costs $6.5 million a year. Yuck.

Touche. I'm sure Hendry got the most that he could. It's too bad Maddux didn't want to go to the Rangers. We could have traded him for DeRosa.

That brings up another point. Hendry's hands were really tied with Maddux's demands (which were well deserved). Hendry was staring at getting nothing for him and seeing what they had in the AAA/AAAA pitchers.

Okay, I know you probably didn't mean it this way, but this sure looks like you just quoted yourself, and then said, "Touche." Which is funny.

Actually, he did quote himself and say 'touche.' Strange.

What exactly were Maddux's demands? He did have a no-trade clause, which isn't a huge surprise since relief pitchers and draftees these days get no-trade clauses from Hendry upon request. By many accounts, Maddux / Boras worked to get the trade done (if you believe Will Carroll). Maddux wanted to be traded, but to a west coast team. Since he was traded to the Dodgers and was signed as a FA by the Pads, it seems that he might not have had particularly outrageous demands.

I didn't even notice. I was hurrying at work and didn't even check.

Fixed.

And overrated.

Thanks, it's been awhile since I've seen his name. Oh how I wish we had his gridiness. (Sarcasm)

izturis has a chance to be a vizquel type ss if he can stay healthy which is not a bad thing at all imo. a gold glove ss with a .700 ops would be very valuable to the cubs imo.

Vizquel circa 2007 or Vizquel circa 1997?

either on would be fine. i was looking at omar's career ba of .276 & ops of .702 though.

That would pretty much be a career year for Cesar, not an impossibility but not a probability either.

looking at omar's stats, he didnt really come into his own offensively until he was 28 or 29. i'm hopeful izturis can do the same if he can stay healthy.

there's no real reason to think that izturis will become anything like vizquel offensively. the only comparison that one could make revolves around defense, that and the fact that vizquel was a bad hitter early in his career and izturis is a bad hitter as well.

i don't think that fact that both have been bad hitters in any way makes their careers comparable.

“he’s Omar Vizquel with an arm,” one scout said

vizquel circa 1994 is izturis' #6 comparable, with a sim index of 39. not terrible.

then again, cristian guzman is his #4, so he could go either way.

i'm guessing he trends to be more like guzman than vizquel.
