Yup, Izturis is in camp...

Monday is the first day position players must report to Cubs camp, but the team is missing only five of the 57 players on the spring roster.

...The only players missing from the spring roster are Aramis Ramirez, Ronny Cedeno, Daryle Ward, Brian Dopirak and non-roster invitee Mike Kinkade.

Shortstop Cesar Izturis says his hamstring is 100 percent healed, and he's eager to show Cubs fans what he can do.

"He says he's ready to go," Piniella said. "That's one of our keys here in Spring Training is to keep that one healthy. He's got a sure-handed glove. That's something that really helps your pitching staff when you can catch it the way he does. He's ready to go."

"I'd rather go talk to the players individually. The talk you're alluding to will probably be better when we cut the roster down and get ready for the championship season. We have a lot of kids here. If you talk too long, it's hard to hold their attention."

Lou don't mess around, do he?

he's taken the john mcdonough seminar in "always talk world series".

mcdonough knew the penchant that MacPhail had for talking about "competing within the division" and decided that was bad for business. lou's just perpetuating the new company line. that is: "we will win the world series tomorrow, if not sooner".

I completely agree with you Lou.

it's just too bad his bat is going to completely negate any improvement his glove brings.

No one on the team drew more than 50. I wonder how far back you would have to go with every team in MLB to find a team that had no players draw more than 50 walks.

I found one without looking too hard. The Padres best base on baller in 1994 only drew 48 walks. But, they only played 117 games that year.

So when was the last time it happened in a full season?

I hope Lee's little girl is doing better first of all. That's the main thing for me.

Second, if he has 100% ROM and is pain free I'll be thrilled and it'll be nice to have him back. I'm happy these guys are excited with this group of hitters and I look forward to seeing how they handle slumps. Will it be a group thing....they hit well at the same time or slump at the same time or will there be a couple of guys that pick up the team when they are struggling. I know a lot of people feel differently but I liked how Lofton changed the outlook of a game when he was in Chicago. He had a different approach than many guys they had on the team and I think that helped when the big guys were struggling. I realize good hitters are good hitters but I just dont want the Cubs to all struggle against the same types of pitchers. This is one reason I like the addition of Floyd to this team.

I'm way too lazy to look it up.
