who cares whether he's considered a superstar anyway? that distinction is meaningless.

It is, but goony was arguing that he was not a superstar, someone else disagreed with him, and I do too.

so...you're arguing that he doesn't deserve the money he got or he does or the cubs should have signed keanu reeves? i'm confused (and losing interest).

Soriano's only real weakness offensively is the inability to draw a satisfactory amount of walks. He was top 20 in doubles, top 5 in home runs, top 15 in SLG, top 30 in OPS and top 10 in stolen bases.

If he drew as many walks as some of the better OBP guys in the league, he'd be one of the best players in the league.

Vlady had about the same amount of PA's as Soriano last year, and the only thing giving Vlady a better OPS is AVG.

I'm looking forward to seeing how well Soriano can do in a much more hitter friendly division, with better bats hitting behind him. Even if his contract is ridiculous.

I for one, think Soriano could be better as a Cub then he was as a National. It's a better line-up then the Nationals and in a better hitters division.

Soriano got a vote as worst free agent signing?

It's not that hard to believe. He got paid like an absolute superstar but he's not one.

This is correct, he's getting paid as if his career OPS was .912, not just last year's. Our GM doesn't understand career years, but he recognized the need to improve the team. There weren't a lot of options this offseason, and overpaying for Soriano was probably the least bad.
