If Hill takes off this season, maybe we should deal Z for elite prospects. 8-[

Ahem...ARod...ahem...

That'd work too, as long as ARod can still play SS.

That's the only way I'd want him. If you could look into the future and see how Prior, Miller and Wood would do along with Guzman it would be quite a move for the Cubs. The money the Cubs would spend on Z would be about the same as the ARod deal too, heck, maybe less.

IF Prior returns to 03 form, and IF Hill does as good as projected, and IF Marquis fixes his problems, could this be a July 31 trade potentially?

I wouldn't deal Z. That's crazy. Deal the only guy that's been healthy? And if Prior returns to form, would he want to even stay here? I'd deal Prior before I'd deal Z.

I think a lot of young pitchers don't realize that fewer pitches is the way to go. IMO getting pitchers to throw a change-up is a very tough sell because there is so much failure that goes with learning it. It's just easier to throw the ball by somebody for a lot of these guys which is something they have been able to do most of their careers until they get to a level where the batters can catch up with their fastball.

The Cubs organization has shown too much of a reliance on the strikeout in recent years, even with its veterans. With someone of Z's build there doesn't appear to be much negative effect, but it has contributed to Wood taxing his arm. It's good to hear Hill understand that there's a difference between (gross simplification) getting a groundout on the second pitch and a strikeout on the fifth.

Why would you deal Prior? He has almost no trade value.

Z is about to fall off a cliff, if his sudden lack of control and ridiculous abuse is any indication. Want to pay Zito money for Wood part II? - except this contract would be even worse.

If Prior returns to form he will have trade value. Z is 26 years old and never been hurt, you can't assume he's about to fall off a cliff? Although if he wants more the Zito type of money, I'd think about trading him . No pitcher is worth a 7-8 year contract.

I think it would behoove Prior to get his going as well. The funny thing with a change up is that it really doesn't decrease your K total that much, if at all. I just like having batters off balance.

I'd deal Z only if it makes the Cubs better and IMO ARod at SS or Miggy Cabrera at RF would do that.

AROD (if he can play SS) or Cabrera yes, Miggy not so sure.

I wouldn't do a Tejada for Z unless the O's gave the Cubs another good starter too which I doubt would happen.

I just hope he doesn't throw too many innings and Prior his shoulder.

Hill is older than Prior. He has survived the danger years.

Actually, I was just looking at his stats from last year and he had a solid year. Let me strike that. But I'd rather have Cabrera for his age and he still hasn't peaked yet.

No, Miggy is Cabrera -- Miguel Cabrera. I'm not saying Tejada and Cabrera are similar, Cuse was referring to Cabrera.

FATHER: No, no, just keep him in here--

GUARD #1: Until you, or anyone else,--

FATHER: No, not anyone else, just me--

GUARD #1: Just you.

GUARD #2: Hic!

FATHER: Get back.

GUARD #1: Get back.

FATHER: Right?

GUARD #1: Right, we'll stay here until you get back.

FATHER: And, uh, make sure he doesn't leave.

GUARD #1: What?

FATHER: Make sure 'e doesn't leave.

GUARD #1: The Prince?

Nice caption to the very up-close picture: "RICH HILL An untouchable"

Also a great quote by Hill:

"Get them out any way you can," he said. "I was striking out a lot of people, but I'm finding the fewer pitches you use the deeper into the game you're going to get.

It's great to hear, from a pitcher who relied so heavily on striking out batters in the minors, that there's value to saving pitches.

He just figured this out? Did Greg Maddux need to tell him this?

yeah, what a loser. i wish he were dead.

Thank you for that valuable comment.

thank you for your's.

We must move forward, not backward, upward, not forward, and twirling, always twirling toward freedom!
