We're making a counter offer to this deal!? HAHAHA

Rotoworld:

Chicago is expected to make a counteroffer to the Redskins' proposal for Lance Briggs.

At this point, it's like Dan Snyder is that fantasy owner in your league that everyone goes to first with trade offers. Washington is already paying too big a price if they give up the sixth pick in the draft and a huge contract for Briggs.

HAHAHA is right..if JA can get MORE for Briggs I will forgive him for the checked box incident with Holdman...

What about getting Rocky McIntosh? He is useless(for this year but the redskins dont think long term) for this year. If that happened. HAHA!!!! god I love danny synder.

Yeah, what use is McIntosh now for the Redskins?

This could be great. The deal is decent as is. The only problem is the Bears don't gain a pick and they lose a key player. If the Bears get anything more than what's already offered, it will be a good deal.

And yes, I'd take McIntosh and throw in Leon Joe.

I have been roaming the redskins message boards..... its like crack. Im sure other fan sites are similar, but either they have a large collection of "un-knowledgeable" fans or NSBB is site for MENSA candidates because I hardly ever see some of magnitude of silly comments as I have there.

For Example:

"We should instead ask for Tommy Harris".... reply...."Id rather have Ogunlei"

"Even though Devin Hester won them 7 or 8 games, I would much rather have EL(he means Antwan Randle EL)"...reply...."Yeah, at least EL is a good receiver"....

Now im paraphrasing some of that, And Of Course, there are so much more knowledgeable fans than these comments show, but I just thought it was funny and I would share it with you all.

Ive been roaming there too. Its quite entertaining. They have a lot of members.

Ive seen the "Yeah, maybe if they throw in Mark Anderson and a second rounder" more than once.

Synder is not thought of very highly on that board. The 'FO' as they say.

if we're going to pay a bunch of money for the 6th pick, why not just give it to briggs, trade out of the first round so we don't have to pay anyone else and call it a day?

Makes the most sense, unless they feel that bridge has completely burned. If they did get the #6 pick, I'm about 90% sure they would trade down. Six will likely be a great spot to be in, because the chances are strong that one of Russell, Quinn, or Peterson will be there and there are teams that clearly have those needs beneath that pick.

interesting things a happen'n

Angelo trying to get more out of the Redskins

The trade offer on the table would send Briggs and the Bears' first-round draft pick – No. 31 overall – to Washington in exchange for the Redskins first-rounder at No. 6. Briggs' representative, Drew Rosenhaus, has been running his mouth to anyone who will listen that this is a good move for both teams, but Angelo is not about to let an agent and a disgruntled player force his hand. According to Pauline, Angelo is also asking for linebacker Rocky McIntosh, Washington's second-round selection a year ago, to sweeten the pot.

McIntosh would be an instant replacement for Briggs and the Redskins actually traded up last year to get him, but owner Daniel Snyder has been know to away draft picks like Kleenex.

Bills need to replace Spikes and Fletcher-Baker

Buffalo has been very active in the trade market this offseason, sending tailback Willis McGahee to Baltimore for a slew of draft picks before packaging linebacker Takeo Spikes and quarterback Kelly Holcomb to Philadelphia for defensive tackle Darwin Walker. Linebacker London Fletcher-Baker left for the aforementioned Redskins via free agency, so the Bills have major holes to fill at that position. Pauline has learned that Buffalo is offering their pick in the first round – No. 12 overall – to the Bears for Briggs, although Angelo would have to include another selection in return for that deal to happen.

This potential trade could pick up some steam because Buffalo is coached by former Bears front man Dick Jauron, who Briggs played for as a rookie.

Giants also in need of serious help at linebacker

New York currently has openings at both outside linebacker positions, having cut both LaVar Arrington and Carlos Emmons in the offseason. Antonio Pierce is the only `backer the G-Men have with a legitimate NFL resume, plus their defense was absolutely ravaged by injuries last season. Pauline reports that the Giants have offered their spot in Round 1 – No. 20 overall – to the Bears for the durable Briggs, although this deal would technically have less appeal than the other two according to the draft value chart.

Angelo would probably much rather pick 20th in the first round as opposed to 6th or 12th because of the money involved, but New York will have to offer more for this swap to happen.

mods, can I do this? if not strike it. I got it from chicagobears.com message board...

I don't think that's a problem to post that.

And wow, those deals look decent. If the Bears can get McIntosh, that's a no-brainer. I'd might even give up the 3rd rounder to make that happen.

I don't know about the Buffalo or NYG deals. I'd imagine the Bears would have to trade at least the 37th pick. Hopefully, they would get another pick later in the draft also. (3rd?)

Like others, my biggest concern about the original trade rumor was creating a hole at linebacker and not gaining a draft pick. If Angelo can pull this off without creating a new hole to fill, that would be great.

The Bears convention was this weekend and they showed some clips on the Final Word, including Tommie Harris jogging across the stage and jumping around! He said that Tommie Harris is a 110% player, and right now he is only at 100% so he has 10% to gain before the season. great to hear!

Nice.

According to ChicagoBears.com, the Bears confirmed that not only is Mike Brown very much in their plans for 2007, but he'll be starting, as well.

And:

The Bears general manager also told the fans about a brief one-on-one meeting he had with Briggs earlier this week during the NFL owners meetings in Arizona.

“It was good,” Angelo said. “I wanted Lance to know that we certainly want him to be part of our ’07 season. I wanted to hear what he had to say and make sure that I understood clearly how he feels, and I did that. “It was very amiable given that neither one are really going to get their way. But we have to take the high road, move forward and make this the best we can because it serves everybody to do it that way.”

Responding to a question from a fan, Angelo reiterated that the Bears want Briggs back in 2007, but that won’t preclude them from trading him if they find a deal to their liking.

To Angelo's credit, he has taken the high road in this instance. Lovie too.

I think Angelo has handled this very well so far. I don' know what else he could possibly do.

If he gets McIntosh and the No. 6 for Briggs and our No. 1 its freakin' larceny.

Maybe by making that push they can settle on an extra Washington pick in addition to the 1st rounder swap. That would probably satisfy most. I think it's entirely reasonable for Angelo to expect more than just the swap, considering the league rules set compensation at 2 1st rounders straight up, no swap.
