Big fan of this deal. Assuming they don't cut Brown, which I don't think they will.

I doubt they will. They already lost a safety, so Arch could very well be the replacement and backup to Brown. They are not counting on Brown this time around. Arch is a very good insurance policy to Brown IMO.

This isn't a bad deal at all. He was good for the Rams, let's hope he's better for us than he was with the 'skins.

I'm glad we picked him up for significantly less money. So that's good.

But he's heading into his 7th year. This is a player with considerable mileage. His numbers have been declining for the past 2 seasons. That covers both Washington & St. Louis.

I'll buy into it because it's what----$2.7 mil/yr? That's not all that bad.

Nice pick up for the Bears. Archuleta was misused in Washington and should be more comfortable back in Lovie's defense. He's exactly the run stuffing safety they need, especially since the run defense turned soft after Mike Brown went down. I view Mike Brown in the same way I do Mark Prior and Kerry Wood, he simply cannot be counted on.

As far as Archuleta's struggles with the Redskins last year, I wouldn't put too much stock in it. That team is a mess and Snyder runs it like his own personal fantasy squad. I'm reminded of when the Redskins threw a lot of money at Jeremiah Trotter. He, too, struggled and was considered a bust and washed up. That was until he rejoined the Eagles, immediately helped turn their defense around, helped get them to the super bowl and made two pro bowls. I'll trust Lovie on this one.

Good comparison with Trotter. I think Archuleta could be great against the run in the Bears scheme.

I can get behind this. I guess this means no trading up for Landry. :P

Not that I thought that would happen...

Now...about the D-line...

They got him for a 6th rounder, and a 3/8 contract?

I really hope this doesn't mean they are cutting Brown. Arch, Brown, Manning and Harris could actually make up a pretty solid safety core.

The signing removes a position from the Bears' critical-need list and fortifies a key area of the defense. Archuleta is expected to be the Bears' starting strong safety alongside Danieal Manning, and his addition could signal the end of Mike Brown's career in Chicago.

The Bears have been expected to approach Brown for a restructuring of the contract that is scheduled to pay him $2.49 million each of the next two seasons. If he and the Bears can reach an agreement, the safety position suddenly could be a strength with Archuleta, Brown and Chris Harris along with Manning, the Bears' first pick in last year's draft.

Per John Mullin in the Trib.

I really hope they consider keeping Brown. If he can stay healthy a Brown/AA saftey duo would be insane. His contract isn't that much now(relatively speaking )

For all his health problems, Brown really is an outstanding safety and a huge asset to the defense. I'd really like to keep him.

Honestly, the second statement is a lot more telling to me than the first. The first statement sounds like speculation, just like any of us have speculated at this point. The second statement makes it sounds like the Bears really want to keep Brown with AA and have a solid safety corps back there.

I'll never forget 2001 when he had interception returns for touchdowns two weeks in a row. That's when I first became aware of him and I've been a fan ever since. It would be nice if he could stay healthy for once, but like the Cubs with Prior and Wood, now they have other options if he doesn't.

Same here. That was too awesome, watching Brown return those interceptions.

Mark it down...If the Bears don't keep Mike Brown we will be a 500 team next year. Lets not forget Mike Brown started off his career as a Free Safety when the Bears had Tony Parrish at Strong Safety.

I am against this deal if it signals the end for Mike Brown. Mike Brown for 12 games a year > Archuleta for 16.

Hmmmm, I guess it's just because of the money that they would now cut Brown?

I'm pretty sure Lovie and Angelo are acutely aware of what he means to this defense when healthy. Go back and look at the numbers: when Brown goes down, our run D begins to suck *IMMEDIATELY*

That is a ludacris statement, while I love Mike Brown, this team will not be 500 without him. How many games has he played the last 2 years, and yet the Bears are 24-8 duing the regular season.

Brown will restructure. What else can he do?

Retire. Most feel he has a bright future in the coaching ranks. Or maybe someone else will give him a flyer for a little more money than the Bears. He has a couple options, though as you point out his NFL opportunities are becoming limited.

Lovie is at Texas' pro day today.

Probably for Griffin and Blaylock.

It seems Jerry is giving Lovie more of a role in terms of scouting/player personell. IIRC, Lovie did alot of scouting on D. Manning.

Not quite sure if this is a good or bad thing to be honest.

Michael Griffin S Griffin (201 pounds) ran the 40 in 4.40 seconds, had a 39½-inch vertical jump and stood on everything else he did at the Combine.
