Awesome. Good to hear. I guess that pick wasn't wasted like most of us thought it would be. Now let's just hope that he pans out.

Why would he decide to not try football too? I mean I know the reasons why he would, but what has changed in his mind since he originally wanted to try to do both?

there are about 7.25 million guarenteed reason why he changed his mind.

I think if he fails in Baseball he can always go back to football and IMO it might not be as easy to do it the other way around.

The realization that it would never work? Perhaps some sort of time limit on the Cubs' offer? Or maybe this was the plan all along and he was just saying the right things to keep the football people happy.

I agree, much more guaranteed money in baseball, and if it doesn't work out he can always resume his football career.

Nevermind that while he would probably have been a good NFL player, he has the possibility of being a great baseball player. Fortune is nice, but most athletes are driven by fame.

Plus he would make a lot more money over the course of his baseball career than he would in football.

And Drew got some money out of it. How many guys go from football to baseball? I agree it's not easy but IMO the switch from baseball pitcher to NFL WR is easier than NFL WR to pitcher.

I don't think it's easy either way, especially when you consider the time away from the other sport they are taking. Hard to spend a couple years away from either sport and expect to still be good enough to play in the pros.

Chad Hutchinson too, oh wait we want to forget about him

I'd say QB and pitcher are the two positions you can't just give up, and then go back to in a few years and expect success. I think a guy could handle the switch to WR though.

That's my line of thinking. Look at Deon Sanders as an example.

Exactly, the only question for Jeff would be whether he could stay in football shape. It's not like he'll suddenly forget how to run a route and catch a ball.

I can't really blame him. You get a guaranteed contract and a shot at being a great baseball pitcher (and not have to get drilled by DBs going over the middle). If it doesn't work out or he ruins his elbow, he can still try football. It might not work out either, but at least he'll have $8m.

So where does he rank in order of our pitching prospects now. #1? Top 5? Top 10?

BTW...I'm no longer considering Hill a "prospect"
