Rather than start a new thread every time someone declares for the draft, I figured I'd just start the draft thread and then we can keep all that stuff together.

Anthony Gonzalez just declared for the draft. As a Penn State fan, this makes me happy - Buckeyes are down their top 2 receivers and their starting QB next year. We should have a good shot at beating them, especially with the game here in Happy Valley. On the other hand, they did start 10 freshmen and sophomores, so the cupboard is hardly bare.

So, here's the list of underclassmen entering the draft so far:

Jamaal Anderson	Arkansas	DE	Jr.
Jon Beason	Miami	LB	Jr.
Alan Branch	Michigan	DT	Jr.
Michael Bush	Louisville	RB	Jr.
C.J. Gaddis	Clemson	CB	Jr.
Anthony Gonzalez	Ohio State	WR	Jr.
Chris Houston	Arkansas	CB	Jr.
Dwayne Jarrett	USC	WR	Jr.
Calvin Johnson	Georgia Tech	WR	Jr.
Charles Johnson	Georgia	DE	Jr.
Rory Johnson	Mississippi	LB	Jr.
Marshawn Lynch	California	RB	Jr.
Robert Meachem	Tennessee	WR	Jr.
Zach Miller	Arizona State	TE	Jr.
Greg Olsen	Miami	TE	Jr.
Darrelle Revis	Pittsburgh	CB	Jr.
Sidney Rice	South Carolina	WR	Soph.
JaMarcus Russell	LSU	QB	Jr.
Luke Smith-Anderson	Idaho	TE	Jr.
Lawrence Timmons	Florida St.	TE	Jr.
Darius Walker	Notre Dame	RB	Jr.
Danny Ware	Georgia	RB	Jr.
Eric Wright	UNLV	DB	Jr.

I love not being focused on the draft in January.

I'm not exactly focused on it either - my team IS playing on Sunday - but I'm getting lost in all the new threads of Jarrett and Peterson and whoever the hell else said they're leaving for the NFL draft. Trying to keep things more simple.

I'm not saying you were, I'm just glad that unlike many of the past several years, I really am not paying much attention at all to the draft.

Samardzija at 13 is a bit of a surprise.

I'm not very shocked about that-he has all the tools of the top receivers. The only big concern about him is his commitment to baseball. If people want to drop his status, start a big PR campaign about how he is going to pick baseball over football, and his draft status will drop like crazy :D.

I thought so too. I just don't see him as the second best receiver in the draft.

Remember, Ginn is not on this board yet. He might still go above Samardzija. I'd put Ginn and Jarrett as well above Samardzija, but I think Jeff is the 4th best receiver on the board, which normally would still put him safely in the 1st round.

I think Sidney Rice will be better than Samardzija too.

How many teams could be drafting WR in the first round? With Johnson, Jarrett, Ginn, Meachem, and Rice all being similar if not better talents(Bowe is at the bottom of the Big Board too), hopefully that pushes Samardzija out of the pay rate he would want to give up on baseball.

With the talent in the 1st round at receiver, I could easily see 5 or more receivers taken in the 1st round. 3 of them will be taken in the top 12-15 (CJ, Ginn, Jarrett), and then the Patriots will likely draft a receiver with one of their 2 picks (and the one unfortunately who I think will take Samardzija especially with their connections to Weis), and then I think one other team at the bottom of the first round will take a WR.

Rumors are that Oakland will either take Russell with the first pick or not a QB. I'm not hearing anything linking them with Quinn. The Lions may not either, which could send Quinn to his hometown Browns...unless Joe Thomas falls to 3, in which case indications are that Cleveland will take him. With Tampa apparently committed to Chris Simms, Quinn could fall a bit more than expected.

hahaha not drafting a quarterback because you have chris simms is like winning a new car on the price is right, but turning it down because you've already got a kia rio

Praise Jesus. Pittman is going to annouce what he is doing Monday. Robiske, Hartine are not Ginn and Gonzalez. So with the new QB, look for them to go tighter next year and not so much the spread, especially with Wells in the backfield.

Is Leon Hall really the best CB available in this draft? It must not be too deep then, i wouldnt call him a shut down corner. Top ten is pushing it. Top 20 i can see.

Leon Hall won't be the first cornerback picked, mark my words.

Mel doesnt have any other CB in his top 25. (I havent looked at other boards yet). So who would be.

I have no idea who Carolina will pick or who I want them to pick. We could probably use OL before any other position, but there are a number of positions we could use more people at, including DL and LB.
