Fox Sports.com[/url]"]The Orioles, thwarted in earlier attempts to add a top slugger, are close to signing free agent Aubrey Huff to a three-year contract worth at least $18 million, FOXSports.com has learned.

Huff, who recently turned 30, will be the Orioles' second offensive addition of the off-season, joining free-agent outfielder Jay Payton. The Orioles plan to use Huff mostly in left field, but he also could get at-bats at first base and designated hitter.

He sure has fallen off the map the last few seasons after those two great years.

Nice bargain signing by the O's. Even if he doesn't get back to where he was a couple of years again, he's still a good value at that price.

True.

And so is Jacque Jones, though most won't admit it.

I still agree that Jones was a bargain... and i dont want to see him be dealt... if that is whats going to happen.

Actually, if you've spent any time at NSBB (and I know you have), "most" people are not saying that anymore. If your definition of "most" is a couple of people, then clearly your definition of "most" is not the same as "most" of the people here.

If you want to say "I told you so" for those of us who said that it was a bad signing last year, I suppose you do still have that.

With that said, he still should be sitting the bench against LH pitchers.

It's not an "I told you so" at all. I was skeptical at first, but realize Jones at roughly 5 million a year is a bargain for what he produces.

Maybe "most" isn't the best word, but rarely is Jones' name mentioned in a positive light. There has been plenty of discussion about trading him away, despite his relatively low price tag in the current market.

My apologies. I think the confusion comes from the impression that we all have that Hendry is trying to move him or that Jones demanded a trade.

I think most of us would rather hang onto him at this point rather than put someone even worse out there, if worse is the even the proper word to use.

I hated the Jones signing last year and I was very vocal about it. Now, I'd rather keep him than go with a loser like Newhan. And I don't even need to think about it. If Jones wants out or if Hendry really wants to move him, too bad if it nets little in return. Stick him out there against RH pitching where he's serviceable and have him come off the bench in games the opponents are tossing a LH pitcher.

True, but it's been discussed quite a bit because it looked quite likely that Jones was going to be traded. There are some who want him traded, and there are some who have discussed trading him because Hendry is/was likely to trade him.

I didn't like the Jones signing last year, and I don't expect him to repeat last year's performance, but I'd rather have him than many of the currently available alternatives.
