Miguel Acensio and Jason Jennings for Taylor Buchholz and Jason Hirsh? Wow terrible deal for the Astros. Enjoy that 1.50 WHIP Houston.
Houston also kicks in WIllie Tavares.

Giving $ for Marquis doesn't look so bad in comparison.

Why couldn't he have accepted cupons?

FYI - Haren is being dangled for trades.

so is blanton and harden and probably everyone else on the team

Too bad we don't have anything Beane would want. I'd love to have Haren, Harden or Blanton on the Cubs.

I can see Beane liking Murton (good player, good patience, cheap for a while yet), if not others.

I cant see Hendry trading Murton.

I like Murton as much as the next guy, but if you can get Haren for him & a prospect, I think you have to do it.

Hrm, wolf's avatar got me thinking. Over the last three offseasons, NL Central teams have traded Haren, Nolasco and Hirsch for Mulder, Pierre and Jennings. Ouch.

ya know, Haren's a nice pitcher, but has he really proven anything other than being a Ted Lilly type starter? Nolasco looks to have a future, but 89 ERA+ isn't anything to set your hair on fire about. Hirsch hasn't done anything at all in the majors.

I guess my point is, those trades look lopsided in terms of potential and what they brought the receiving team in the long term, but potential hasn't been met and the long term yet to be seen. Haren's already made the Cards look a little silly, but if Nolasco doesn't step his game up and Hirsch doesn't pan out...so what that those players were traded for those players?

Haren accomplished something in each of the last two years that Lilly has not ever done.

what, a few more innings? so what? it doesn't detract from my primary point. fine, Marquis hasn't proven to be anything beyond Lilly with a few more innings.

at ages 23 and 24, haren put up seasons better than anything lilly has ever done despite being in the league since 1999.

Not exactly sure why Beane would do that trade.

Now we know why Hendry couldn't land Jennings. Rockies were looking for a sucker, and they found the Stros.

We also now know the Stros are desperate to the point that they've lost all sense of reality.
