I love this time of year. Full of intrigue and rumors about crap that likely never happens...

but here's the latest for ESPN Rumor Central. Link.

Trading first baseman Richie Sexson may be an option for the Mariners, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports. Raul Ibanez, the current left fielder, could be moved to first base as part of the shakeup if Sexson is dealt to lure an upgrade in the Seattle starting rotation.

Some possible trade partners include the Giants or Braves. San Francisco might be willing to part with lefty Noah Lowry in the right deal, and Atlanta would have no trouble dealing Tim Hudson.

A long shot is acquiring Dontrelle Willis from the Marlins. For that kind of a trade, Florida would almost certainly want the Mariners to pick up a hefty part of the $14 million coming to Sexson in 2007.

sexson at first and derrek lee at shortstop, damn the defense. the cubs need to be in an xbox world!

I'd move Lee out to left, Murton to right, Jones to center, Soriano to 2nd, DeRosa to short.

And then I'd trade for Miggy Cabrera. Instead of a pitcher, he'll play a rover position between the IF and OF. The hitters will have to throw the ball up and hit it themselves.

Tell me again, how in the heck is Seattle going to convince Schmidt that they want to be contenders, when they are looking to trading one of their bigger chips? Unless the Mariners pull a Brewers/D'back part deux, I don't see how they can afford to trade Sexson, and still expect to sign Schmidt.

not that it would ever happen, but why would you move Lee to the outfield when he has never played there extensively? Sexson on the other hand, played out there when he came up with Cleveland due to Jim Thome's presence at 1B

I love when games have a force trade option...It gives me such a feeling of power.

Per Rotoworld & Seattle Post-Intelligencer

The Red Sox, Mariners and Giants have discussed a deal that would send Manny Ramirez to Seattle, Richie Sexson to San Francisco and J.J. Putz to Boston, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

The Red Sox would also receive Adam Jones and Noah Lowry could go to Seattle in one permutation. The Post-Intelligencer believes there's little chance of anything getting done. Still, it's fun to think about, right? Dec. 4 - 10:12 pm et

I still think he'll end up in Boston all of 2007 anyhow.

Would Seattle take on Manny's remaining contract? That could mean Seattle will not have enough money to sign Schmidt.

not sure if you're going on a tangent. my point was I highly doubt Manny accepts a trade to the Pacific Northwest.
