Its funny to me that Billy Beane seems much more interested in signing Piazza than signing Bonds. You would think Beane would be all over that obp, and the bay ara might be the only fanbase in the country that supports/likes him.

Well, I'll take Bonds in LF over someone who played 3 months with 200 AB's and 13 rbi's. Pagan can spell Bonds.

So could Lenny Harris, but that doesn't make it a good idea.

The idea of a bad presence in the clubhouse is just about as overhyped as trash talking through the media. It really doesn't matter that much.

I know Vance has been calling for the Cubs to acquire Bonds, and it just seems so wrong. You have to ask yourself if he would be healthy and worth the investment.

I think he would be. Yes, I detest his personality and morality - but the dude is crippled and still is mad productive.

I would be really pumped if we got Bonds for a couple years. I just have a feeling that he will either remain in SF or go to the AL and DH. Having Bonds in LF for 100-120 games would really do beautiful things for this offense.

As far as his clubhouse presence goes, I only know one person who was his teammate in the past, and that guy says that Bonds was one of the best teammates he ever had. According to him, Bonds is not anything like what the media makes him out to be.

Rob Dibble had some of Bonds teamates offer him a steak dinner if he beaned Bonds when he was in Pittsburg.

For the record, I remember Bruce reporting in one of the threads that the Cubs had no interest in signing Bonds

Thank God.

Unless you've had a chance to see the destructive influence the Bonds circus has had on the Giants organization, you can't realize how bad an idea this is. He's a cancer, and one on his last legs at that. Steer well clear.

Nonsense

Hell yes the Cubs should sign Bonds if it will only take $10MM. Because of his age, you're not tied up with a long-term contract. He's so close to Aaron's record, you know he has one more productive year in him. If he can only play 100 games, so what? He'd be a monster in your lineup for those 100 games. You hit him in-between Lee and Ramirez, and bingo. What an offense.

Sign Cliff Floyd as your 4th OF (after trading away Jock for pitching), and you simply rotate Murton, Floyd and Bonds into and out of the lineup as conditions warrant.

Shoot, if you move Jones and Izturis, those two combined ($9.5MM) would make Barry Bonds FREE wrt payroll. Think about that for a minute. Jock and Izzy? Or Barry freaking Bonds? Hmmm....

Hooray! More mediocrity that's easy to get along with!

I thought the same thing when we let Moises walk, but evidently I was among the few.

Hmm, bonds still wants to play. Angels wanted to go after ram, OR soriano, we got both. Now A's need O depserately.

I predict Bonds to Angels.

Common sense would say that Bonds would go DH somewhere and an AL team would take advatage of that. What do the Yanks have for DH?

after the way Z and Prior have thrown at Bonds and shown him up, what makes you think he would want to come here?

I don't think Bonds cares if his teammates like him.

Yeah but wouldnt Z and Prior care if he's coming?

>_> What if we got both Bonds and Sosa.

Sammy's done. He can't hit anymore.

Yeah I agree, that's what Bonds will try to do. He doesn't want to take the field anymore, just "break" the record.

I'm really curious on how his knees really are. How did he hurt them in the first place?

The Yankees are set at DH with Giambi, who apparently is never going to play 1B again from what I've been reading...

NEXT!

Nobody knows. It's all speculation, everything from "he works out so hard" to "he banged them against a locker".......

The only thing we really know is, he had the cartilege cleaned out and that didn't cure it, so he had a 2nd, separate procedure. Pretty serious stuff. I've banged my knee on a few things; never needed surgery.

I think you're right. He wants to DH in the worst way.

Once you have no cartilage in your knee, it becomes pretty painful to do anything strenuous, like sprinting. The bones are essentially grinding on each other at that point.

If Hendry can get Bonds for a 1-year, $10-12M deal it's a no-brainer, but Bonds should end up as a DH in the AL with his knees.

That's one of the things that I find very suspicious, this knee injury thing.

Do you think his ego is too big to DH? I hope it is, at least bigger than his quest to the HR title.

I think he just wants to stick it to everyone by breaking the record. If he thinks his best shot is by DH'ing to save his knees the trouble, I think he'll try to go that route.

Probably. This is going to be one interesting story following this Bonds fellow.

i agree...let's only sign nice guys who are good in the clubhouse. that's what the cubs have done over the past couple seasons, and it's worked out great.
